We were back at the Pentagon, Erik and I.

'Are you ready?' he asked.

'Ready as I'll ever be.' We walked into the Pentagon, and using two ball bearings Erik took out the guards. We strolled into the building and into a separate room. My blood boiled with anger as I remembered each and every one of the items that was in the partitioned glass cases. Angel's wing. Alex's breastplate from Cuba, the middle burnt out and damaged from the fight. A fight that ended in so much pain... and split the team... a fight that seemed like a lifetime ago. I looked at Erik and then at the two middle cases. The real treasures... exactly what we wanted. My helmet and his. Using our powers, we broke the glass surrounding the metal and brought the helmets close to us.

'Let's go, Adelaide.' We put the helmets on, then Erik took my hand and led me back through the Pentagon building. Walking past the guards who were knocked out, I let go of Erik's hand, knelt down and erased the memories of each of the guards. He looked at me almost in a quizzical manner.

'I had to. Better safe than sorry, Erik.' I took his hand again and we walked out of the building for good.

On the plane to Washington...

Charles was touching Logan's leg. The older mutant looked over at the young Charles, who was visibly stressed.

'You alright?' he asked.

'Getting there.'

'Xavier: getting there,' he said in a gentle, mocking tone. 'Whatever happens today, I need you to promise me something. You looked into my mind and you've seen a lot of bad, but you've seen the good too. The X-Men. Promise me you'll find us. Use your power, bring us together. You and Adelaide. Guide us, lead us. Storm, Scott, Jean. Remember those names. There's so many of us. We will need you, Professor.'

'I'll do my best.'

'Your best is enough, trust me.'

In the future (2023)...

'There's twelve carriers inbound! Ten miles!' Warpath shouted to the other mutants who stood guard over the temple.

'They've found us,' the older Charles said to the older Erik, who was looking at Logan's unconscious body on the stone slab. Looking at him once more, Magneto went out of the temple, ready to fight with his fellow mutants. Until the end. Whatever it took.

In the past (1973)...

In the background of the White House Lawn, a reporter began to speak.

'Thousands of people will be gathered here today. They've come from all over the world to witness history. Along with news crews from at least fifty different countries.' Nearby, Charles, Hank and Logan were going through a security scanner. As Charles and Hank went through, the security scanner beeped, picking up Charles' wheelchair.

'Can I see your invitations, please?' the security guard asked.

'Yes, you may.' Using his power, he tricked the guard. 'These two are with me,' he said. The guard was easily fooled, waving the three mutants through.

'Go ahead.'

'Thank you.'

'Please, this way, sir.' Charles, again using his power, scanned the crowd for any sign of Raven.

'Haven't found her yet, but she has to be here,' Charles said to his two compatriots, who were also looking around for Raven. Just then, the national anthem played and President Nixon walked up to the stage. The vast crowd in front of the stage cheered.

'My fellow Americans,' the President announced, 'today we face the greatest threat in our history. Mutants. We have prepared for this threat. In the immortal words of Robert Oppenheimer: Behold! The world will never be the same again.' The crowd cheered again.

Meanwhile...

Erik and I telekinetically floated into a baseball stadium.

'Can I help you?' the groundskeeper asked.

'No, you can't,' I snapped to him. Feeling for the metal, Erik and I uprooted the stadium from its secure grounding and floated it away, with us in tow. The groundskeeper was standing there, utterly shocked.

In the future (2023)...

'Here they come,' Warpath announced solemnly.

In the past (1973)...

This is for you, brothers and sisters, Raven thought. Just then there was a shout.

'Raven!' Charles shouted. 'I have her!' Hank and Logan noticed.

'Let me go, Charles!' she shouted angrily, her gun pointed but not moving. Or firing.

'There, see? Secret Service man, left of the stage,' he spoke.

'Got it.' Logan ran towards Raven.

'Go!' Charles shouted. Mine and Erik's power began to lower the stadium towards the White House and as we got nearer, the Sentinels began to rise as well. The crowd cheered.

On the ground...

'What the hell are you doing? I didn't tell you to activate them!' Dr. Bolivar Trask yelled at William Stryker.

'I didn't.'

Meanwhile...

Raven, please listen to me, Charles reasoned with Raven telepathically. We've been given a second chance to define who we are. Don't do this.

I'm not Raven anymore, she thought back to Charles sharply.

In the future (2023)...

'We can't stop that many,' Bishop said.

'No, but we can slow them down,' Storm replied, her lightning energy crackling between her fingers.

In the past (1973)...

Erik and I were using the rigged Sentinels to shoot police cars. People were screaming and running everywhere in a panic.

'Erik! Adelaide!' I heard Charles shout, but he couldn't get in my head. Or Erik's, which made things easier.

In the future (2023)...

Storm rose in the air, using her power to electrocute Bishop so he could project his power towards the approaching Sentinels.

'Storm!' Bishop yelled. With Storm's help, Erik sent the X-Jet into a pod of Sentinels, sending it crashing down.

In the past (1973)...

The Sentinels flew over the screaming crowds as Erik and I lowered the RFK Stadium over the White House.

'Charles!' Logan yelled. Erik and I dropped the stadium around the White House, almost crushing Charles. We both dispatched the Sentinels to stand guard around the temporary barrier.
