I had every opportunity to cancel. I could have said, "Hey, Embry, I've got a fever and can't make it after school," or "So, listen, I'm swamped with homework so I have to cancel." But no. There was absolutely, positively no way out of this now.

I realized that when Embry bounced over to me after class with his stupid little lopsided grin that made my stomach flutter.

"Hey!" He greeted, wrapping an arm around my shoulder. "You ready?"

No!

"Yep," I laughed nervously, biting at my lip.

"Manos para ti, chico," (Hands to yourself, boy,) My father warned and I rolled my eyes playfully.

Embry frowned in confusion and then his eyes went wide and he flung his arm from off of my shoulder.

"Lo siento Sr. Montoya," (Sorry Mr. Montoya,) Embry spoke and and I grinned at him proudly.

"Finalmente poniéndome al día con tu español, veo," (Finally catching up on your spanish, I see,) Papa pursed his lips and shook his head.

Embry froze and nodded slowly, and I laughed, repeating my father's words in English. The boy's mouth went into an 'o' and he nodded.

"¡Fuera de aquí niños!" We walked a few steps forward and Papa yelled after us again. "¡No te diviertas demasiado!" (Get out of here kids,"
"Don't have too much fun!)

"Deséame suerte, papá. ¡Te amo!" (Wish me luck, Papa. I love you!) I said back, bouncing on the heels of my feet.

"Te amo querida!" (I love you Darling).

Embry placed his hand on my back and led me down the halls, stopping with me at my locker.

"So, te amo means I love you, right?" I nodded at Embry and grinned, putting my books away. "What about the first part. That's... Something about luck?"

I shut the door of my locker shut and leaned against it.

"Getting warmer."

"Wish me luck?" He guess and I laughed, making a 'ding ding' noise.

He wrapped his arms around my shoulders and we dodged people walking down the halls.

"Why do you need luck? It's not Paul and Jared, right? I can totally tell them not to come if you're uncomfortable." He said quickly but my laugh cut him off. He sighed and looked down at me with a confused smile. "Then what is it?"

"Besides the height?"

He put his hand over his mouth and looked away, obviously covering up a laugh.

"Yeah, yeah, okay. Laugh it up, jerk, because I'll be the one laughing when you fall," I lied, rolling my eyes playfully. Really, if he fell off a cliff, I'd jump in after him without a second thought.

"Nah, I won't fall." He denied, opening the front doors for us.

"And why's that tough guy?"

"I have incredible balance, Señorita. I'd only fall if someone pushes me."

"I think we can arrange that," I smirked and Embry laughed, hugging me closer to him.

We were nearing Paul's truck where him, Jared and Kim all stood, conversing. I made a noise in the back of my throat and took a deep breath. New people is always difficult with me.

Embry rubbed my back as if reading my mind, instantly soothing some of my worries.

"Hey, look, it's the love birds!" Paul boomed, gaining everyone else's attention.

I sighed and Embry clenched his jaw, muttering something under his breath.

"No, really, what took you guys so long?"

"We were making out in the janiters closet," I said sarcastically, rolling my eyes.

Embry paused and his cheeks stained a deep red as he held in a laugh. Jared looked impressed and Kim covered up her giggle with a cough. Paul didn't even try to quite his booming laughter.

"I'm kidding!"

Paul sighed and smirked, leaning against his truck. He narrowed his eyes between us and shook his head.

"Damn, for a second I thought Embry was really getting some. But, by the looks of things, it won't be too much longer."

Paul's retort caught me off guard and I coughed, shaking my head. Embry checked on me first and then ran over to the older boy, pushing him. The got into a wrestling match and I walked over beside Kim and Jared.

"Do they do this a lot?" I asked, concerned for the boy I've grown so close to in this last month.

"You'd be surprised," Kim sighed, leaning into Jared's embrace. She held out a hand for me to shake. "I'm Kim."

"Alyson."

"I know. He dosen't shut up about you. Literally."

Jared crackled and glanced at me, then brought his attention back to the boys.

I shook my head, unable to stop the smile that made it's way across my lips.

Finally, the little wrestling match stopped and Paul came out victorious. He had Embry pinned against the ground, rubbing his head.

"Maybe next time, loser."

Embry got up and sighed, giving me an embarrassed smile. He was upset that he lost, but from what I could tell, he wasn't physically hurt.

"Hey," I nudged him and winked. "You'll beat his ass next time, Bre."

Embry rubbed the back of his neck and nodded. He sighed and looked down at me with a big smile, forgetting the moments before.

"Kim! Let's go!"

Jared whined and Kim giggled, whispering up to her boyfriend. He shook his head and frowned. Kim shook her head too and leaned forward, placing a kiss on his pouty lips. She waved bye to me and bounced off without another word.

Jared smirked and licked his lips, watching her glide away. I felt Embry move his shoulder uncomfortably beside me as Paul kicked Jared in the shin, telling him to snap out of it.

I laughed and covered my mouth, thinking that this might not be too bad of a day.
