Sophie was ripped out of her unicorn-filled dreams to the melodious sounds of roaring and crowing and screams. She jumped out of bed, not bothering to listen to Vertina, the annoyingly beautiful mirror, as she ran out of her room. She yelled for Grady and Edaline, but they weren't anywhere to be seen. Her nerves were spiked as she searched for the source of the noises, which were obviously the animals, but she was still overcome with her sleep. She jumped at every sound, even when it turned out to be-- no one. Sophie swore she heard a voice whispering her name.

She paused to listen harder, but her frazzled brain and nerves prevented her from focusing and she felt overwhelmed and dizzy. The animals were still screeching outside, and the pressure was suddenly on Sophie's shoulders to make everything okay.  She stood up, trembling, and went outside to figure out what was going on with the rather wild creatures. Outside, she wandered around, still trying to figure out a plan on how to "save" the animals from whatever chaos was happening. The animals! Terror crashed through her veins as the terrible images crossed her mind-- What if the animals were dying? What if she couldn't help them? Then she heard her name again.

She stopped dead in her tracks, which happened to be right underneath Calla's beautiful tree. Even though it was peaceful, Sophie was scared. And that was coming from the amazing and (supposedly) fearless leader of the small group of kids. But she didn't feel fearless. She felt alone and like she was being followed, which is not the best feeling. She whipped her head around to see if anyone was behind her, and she swore that if it was Grady or Edaline- she would rip their heads right off.

It wasn't.

In fact, it was no one. Just her and the open air. "Focus, Sophie. Focus," she told herself in an attempt to assess the situation and solve the problem. Except she was still underneath the tree and nowhere near the animals. "One, two, three, four..." Sophie counted her steps towards the animal pens. It was a flurry of chaos and wings and feathers and bright colors, but she knew (or at least hoped) she could help without Grady or Edaline. "Deep breaths, Sophie..."

Sophie threw out her arms to stop the fighting animals, but claws tore at her arms and darkness enveloped her. Now she was truly scared and had no idea on how to stop the fighting when she couldn't even see anything. She could feel her arms being grabbed by talons as she was lifted into the air by some sort of creature. I guess now is the time for help, she thought, immediately imagining the teal-eyed elf who she loved--er--is very good friends with. She trusted him with her life, which was a lot coming from someone like her.

The whispers returned, growing louder and louder until all she wanted to do was cover her ears and cry. But she couldn't.

She stretched her mind, reaching out to Fitz to ask for help. Or at least talk to him. Her telepathic abilities were still working, thank goodness, but she could hardly hear what Fitz was saying, even if it wasn't in real person/elf.

"Fitz!" She cried out, "please. Help me."

She got no response.

"Fitz!" She tried again. Was there no mental connection at all anymore?

Still nothing but a whispered Sophie.

"Sophie?" A crisp voice asked. "What's wrong? Are you safe?"

"I--I dont know." She said all too quietly, so Fitz asked again.

"Are you okay? Are you safe?" He had heard the panic in her voice, and knew that everything was not all right, but he still asked anyways as a sort of confirmation.

"There are claws...and darkness?" She said after a little while.

"Where are Grady and Edaline?"

"I- I don't know."

"Where are you, Sophie?"

"The pasture. The animals. Help."

Without any other questions, Fitz came over, after struggling and arguing to convince Alden and Biana to let him come alone. He crashed through the green hills and past the grandeur crystal house, rushing to Sophie's aid.

"Sophie!" He called, trying to find her in the flurry. "Grab a hold of my hand!" He cried out desperately.

Sophie managed do de-claw a bird and reached out feebly to grab his hand with what little grip and no sight she had left. He yanked her arm to get her out, and she cried out in pain as the nails ripped her flesh and brought up blood to the surface of her skin. Fitz cradled the once fearless Sophie in his arms, and whispered reassurances in her ear.

"Please... No whispering," she said, the darkness receding into daylight and sunshine. "THEY were whispering my name, THEY brought me out here. I'm scared."

Fitz just stared at her arms, feeling the pain emanate from her body, and he asked if she wanted Elwin. She just cried.

"They left me. Grady and Edaline did. Everyone did! And I got scared because of the animals, they were fighting. Who was whispering?" She said frantically.

"I don't know, Sophie. They didn't leave you. I didn't. Don't I count as someone?" The humor he tried to bring was drained from the air as soon as it left his mouth, becoming dry and rough to Sophie's ears. She held onto him for dear life, but her stubbornness did nothing to prevent her from staring in his eyes and telling him no.

"Thank you," she said after calming from her quite eventful morning, "I didn't know who else to ask for help. Oh shoot. The animals are still fighting." She tried to stand up, but Fitz grabbed her and pulled her back down, kissing her on the cheek and wiping her tear stains away before asking one last question of her.

"Who was whispering, Sophie?"
