Chapter 4: British Direction
So get out, get out, get out of my head and fall into my arms instead

Why did I agree to this? Why, oh why, did I agree to this? I could just imagine being back home, in the kitchen perhaps or in my room, eating chocolate, reading a book and listening to music. But oh no, I was standing outside, on a pavement, in the middle of a town I didn't even know, watching Lily attempt to read a map. In the rain. Soaked through didn't even describe the state I was in.
"I think we're here."
Lily pointed to some road.
"The map is upside down, Lily."
"Whoopsy daisy! Silly me!"
She turned the map around and resumed her search.
"Where do you even want to go?"
"I don't know, I just thought it would be a good idea to find where we are."
"In the rain?"
Lily glanced up at the heavens, brown strands of hair glued to her red cheeks. She had brought a coat with her (I say a coat, but it was more of a cardigan) whereas I was stuck in my t-shirt, now clinging to my cold and wet body.
"This sucks," I grumbled.
I leant against the closed pharmacy behind us and my eyes drifted over to a Costa, a nice warm, and cosy, Costa.
"How about we get a drink and find where we are?"
"Great idea, Mendy!"
I scowled.
We crossed the road and slipped into the warm coffee house, and whilst I ordered (and paid) for one hot chocolate and one coffee, Lily continued to struggle with the map. I brought the drinks over and watched her for a while before I decided it was time I looked at the map. She gladly gave it to me and within a minute, I had found the road we were in.
"So where do we have to go for this concert?"
She dragged her finger across the map and tapped her finger; some outdoor arena kind of thing, just outside of the city centre.
"Outside?"
"Yep! I tried to get the sheltered bit, but they were sold out."
"You do realise it will probably rain throughout?"
"Who cares! We're seeing freaking One Direction! Happiness will keep us warm!"
"So will a coffin when we die of hypothermia."
"Oh don't be such a spoil sport! We'll have fun! And Daddy is coming to pick us up after!"
I was relieved by that, but still not happy. I sipped at my coffee and Lily poured a few packets of sugar into her hot chocolate. Then added two more. I scowled again. Lily then squealed, making just about everybody in Costa look our way, and clapped her hands.
"We're going to see One Direction! I'm so freaking excited!"
"I know we are."
"Aren't you excited?"
"I'm so excited I'm going to die."
"I know, right?"
"Right."
Her eyes fell wistfully on the clock and she sighed.
"A few more hours and then I will hear so beautiful little angels singing."
Three and a half hours till I find out who is One Direction, I thought.
"Oh my gosh, I totally need to do my makeup again!"
She dashed off to the bathroom, and for a moment, I imagined leaving without her. Tempting, but it would be like leaving a lamb to cross a motorway, just too mean. Her phone beeped and curiosity soon had me pick it up and see who the text was from.
MyFabGorgyBFFF
Oooh my gawd, I'm like well jell, your like tots seein 1D withot me, tats like tots not far
"My fab gorgy best friend for live? What the actual fuck?"
Then I saw her screen background. Five boys. Who else could it be but One Direction? I peered at their blurred figures in the tiny screen.
"What are they? Twelve?"
"Oh my god, I've lost my mascare, Mendy!"
I dropped her phone and looked up at Lily's frantic face. She hadn't even noticed that I was looking at her phone.
"It's in your pocket," I said dryly.
"Oh! Silly me!"
