In a small village, of the kingdom of Maria, lived a young human woman named Soncere (sun-see-a-ray, Apache name meaning ‘Morning Star’). As she walked through the village’s market, a peculiar booth caught her eye; it was selling herbs, potions, and charms for anyone’s use. The young man who owned the booth, a warlock named Jodi, saw the young woman staring at his booth. Catching her eye, he smiled kindly and beckoned her toward his booth.

Almost like magic, Soncere found herself walking toward the young man. Smiling kindly back at the stranger, the two exchanged greetings and introduced themselves.

Soncere began noticing this young man everywhere, as though he were following her. He continuously presented her with exotic flowers, sweets, and confections (baked goods, i.e. cake, bread, muffins, etc). As the two grew closer and closer, Soncere’s family began to notice their daugter’s increasing absence. She would show up late at night after going missing from just after breakfast to well after supper.

Her family got their answer when a young man came to their house, asking permission to marry Soncere. It clicked that their daughter had been gone for so long due to this young man before them, who must have been courting her. They were going to deny him, when they realized how happy Soncere was whenever she was with him.

A marriage and nine months later, and the two lived in a little cottage close to the forest with their firstborn child, a happy little baby girl with little wafts of (h/c) hair, (s/t) skin, and (e/c) little eyes that glittered. Years pass by, and the little girl is six now, helping her mother in their little vegetable and herb garden.

Jodi knew from the moment (Y/N) was born that she’d grow to be a stronger witch than he’d ever been, simply because her human half amplified her power. Looking out the window from the kitchen, he watched as Soncere and (Y/N) giggled together. The two looked the same, same hair, eyes, skin tone, body build, same everything.

His and Soncere’s eyes widened as (Y/N) seemingly willed the sage to grow bigger and more bountiful, simply by staring at it. Jodi knew that he’d never be able to do that…

Unless…

Another six years later, and (Y/N) was playing hide and seek with her now-pregnant mother. (Y/N) was hiding in an abandoned fox den that she found under her house, giggling as she saw her mother sneaking around on the floor above her.

The front door of the cottage flew open, and Soncere turned around to see her husband of thirteen years holding a large knife and what appeared to be a large book bound in human skin. She saw him smile wickedly. She backed up as he stalked forward and threw back the rug, revealing a ritual circle.

Jodi cast a bordering spell on the circle, grabbed Soncere by the forearm, and threw her into the circle, effectively caging her. Unaware of his daughter just below his feet, Jodi stepped into the circle, and stabbed his pregnant wife in the stomach, killing the child in her womb. Beginning to chant in a language unknown to (Y/N) (It will be Elvish), he drew closer to Soncere as she crawled backwards, cowering as far from her unhinged husband as possible while trying to stop the bleeding from her stomach. Jodi stepped closer to his wife, caging her between himself and the magic wall he cast, and stabbed her through the heart.

(Y/N), below the floor, felt a drip of something on her face. Reaching up, she wiped the drip from her face, and brought it to her mouth, taking her finger away from her face quickly as soon as she tasted copper. She heard her father begin chanting again, and crawled closer to where she heard him. At this point, (Y/N) is unknowingly beneath the circle.

As Jodi felt power surge through him, he believed that he now had the power to do anything. After all, he performed the ritual (albeit a forbidden ritual) perfectly. He spotted a potted plant. Walking over to it, he touched it willing it to die. When successful, he smirked, and willed it to life.

Or rather, he tried to will it back to life. He tried again, and again, and again. Frustrated with his failure, Jodi looked for the book to find where he went wrong. When it wasn’t where he left it, he looked everywhere, tearing the cottage apart. From the corner of his eye, he saw wisps of (h/c) hair. Turning fully to look at his daughter, he saw his book clutched tightly in her hands as she raced away.

Realizing that she’d seen everything, Jodi chased after his small daughter, following her through the forest, smirking as she tripped over an exposed root. As he ran forward, telling his daughter that he wasn’t going to hurt her, that he just wanted his book back, he towered over where his daughter should have fallen, to grow enraged at the sight of…

Nothing.

(Y/N) looked around her to find a completely different area of the forest, one she’d never been to. In that little clearing, she saw a river which led to a small pond of crystal clear water. She was mesmerised by the fish swimming peacefully in the water, seemingly unbothered as she reached her hand toward the lake’s surface. As her hand touched the water, she was stunned by the ripples and strange flowing of the water, even more so when lotuses, water lilies, and other aquatic plant life sprung from the bottom of the lake.

She’d decided. Here. (Y/N) would restart here. She got to work, quickly collecting logs to build herself a new cottage.
