She looked like she just crawled out of a grave which she spent the last hundred years. Skin and bone was the only thing making up her body, which could barely hold itself up. She looked at me with hunger in her eyes wanting to make up for hundred years of missed meals. As she limped closer to me only one word came out of her saliva filled mouth "food". She inched closer to me and the smell of hundred year old flesh filled my nose and made me gag. The little room I was in had nothing more than a bed, a desk, and a little open window big enough that I could get my body through it. In my time of thinking she managed to get into almost arms reach of me.
Without thinking I jumped from my spot in the room onto the bed and then jumped onto the desk, nearly falling off onto the floor as I landed. She turned to face me and started to limp towards me with a mix of hate and hunger in her eyes. I ran to the window and as I climbed out I looked back and almost felt sorry for her but fear overtook me as I fell out the window, not knowing what was on the other side.
I landed on the other side with a loud THUD, the impact almost knocking me out. The room was pitch black and the only thing I could see was a red flashing light. Thoughts of what I was going to do next filled my head, and in the silent room a voice made me go stiff.
"You're not one of them, are you?"
I wanted to say something but the fear kept my mouth from working. All of the sudden a light came on and revealed who was speaking to me. A girl who was no more than 20 years old shined a flashlight on herself. She had messy jet black hair which covered one eye, she wore dirty old clothes and was covered in dirt.
"Are you one of them?" She asked again.
"What? One of those things in there?" I asked.
"Yes."
"I don't think so." I say
"Did it bite you?"
"Not that I know of."
"Good."
" What's going on here? Where are we?" I asked, looking around my new surroundings. It was a long hallway with doors on either side and a staircase leading to a higher level at the end.
"I don't know much, but from what I gathered we're in a government lab inside a mountain somewhere in New Mexico."
"Government lab, what were they using it for?"
" I think they were trying to make a bio weapon to affect people with."
"Where are all of the people that worked here?"
"I'm not too sure. I woke up just like you did but when i got out of my room no one was here to greet me." She started to look at the stairs.
"Where do those stairs lead to?" I asked
"Just follow me and I'll explain everything."she said as she started walking to the stairs.
I followed her up the stairs that led into a big room with rows of computers facing two giant screens side by side on the far wall. She walked to one of the computers in the first row and started typing on it.
"Look at this" she said as she typed something on the keyboard.
Just then one of the big screens came to life with a video on it.
"Just watch this." she said as she clicked the play button.
When the video started it showed a giant room with a man in a lab coat standing in the middle of it and another man strapped to a table at one end of the room. Just then another man pushing a cart walked into frame.
"This is test number 13, is everything ready?" One of the men said.
"We are ready to start when you are." The other said
One of the men went to the cart and picked up a syringe and walked over to the man on the table.
"Alright, here goes nothing." The man said as he injected test subject 13 with the syringe.
The test subject started to shake so hard that the whole table started to move. His screams filled the room as the other men tied to escape.
"Let us out!" one of them screamed, as both men ran to a door on one side of the room and started pounding on it.
Just then the man broke the straps on the table and jumped at the men at the door. He attacked them until the room went silent and the only thing left moving was what was left of the test subject.. The video ended with the image of the test subject looking right into the camera with his now yellow eyes.
"What the hell was that?" I ask trying not to be too scared.
"It gets worse" she said again typing on the keyboard.
The screen came to life again and like last time it had a video but this video was of a news cast. As she pushed the play button the news cast started.
"Today we have confirmed reports that there was a breach at a government lab in New Mexico. As of right now we don't know what got out or how deadly it is. We recommend people only go out when they absolutely have to, and when you go out have protection with you."
Just as the news caster stopped talking the screen went black and big words that read "Technical Difficulty
Please Stand By" appeared on the screen
Just then the room went black, sirens started to ring and red lights flashed. All we could hear was banging and hundreds of voices all saying the same thing "food". At that moment I knew that this was it for the nameless girl and myself, this is the end.
