I ran, my feet carrying me. Branches scratched my arms and dirt caked my feet. But I knew where I was going, the only place left for me. My parents were gone. I heard a howl and pushed myself to run faster. It was dangerous to be in the woods at night but it was the fastest route to the Salvatore school that I knew. I was human, and throwing myself into the crossfire of supernatural creatures.. I was a hunter.
I pulled the lever on my crossbow and aimed at the shadow figure that was chasing me. I stopped to shoot the arrow. I heard a howl and a whimper and I frowned. I never wanted to hurt anyone even creatures of the night but if it was going to make it I needed to harden my heart. I couldn't get sentimental about a smelly wolf or bloodsucker who who wouldn't hesitate to eat me for dinner.
I continued to run ignoring my thoughts about turning back, I needed help and the Salvatore school was the only place I was going to get it. I felt the hair on my arms stand up and a shiver went down my spine. I stopped running
"Hello" I called out taking in my surroundings. I mentally cursed myself. What's the monster going to do? Say hello back?
"Hello Darling" a velvet voice said. " oh don't you smell delicious" I heard him inhale and I shivered again.
I looked past the trees trying to find him, but he blended in well with the shadows.
" your human eyes won't see me darling" he laughed amused.
I knocked an arrow in my crossbow, that was laced with vervain " God I hate fake accents" I said loud enough for him to hear.
I felt a rush of wind behind me and my crossbow was yanked out of my hands. I turned quickly and saw a flash of red eyes and veins before I was tossed into a tree.
"I assure you darling there is nothing fake about me". I couldn't make out his face, my eye sight blurry. I could feel the  warm blood drizzling down my arm and I winced.
His figure kneeled down next to me, taking my face in his cold soft hand. I was able to make out a face. His eyes were no longer bloodshot but a crystal blurb  and his veins had disappeared leaving him with smooth skin. The moonlight streamed down on his face as if he was an angel.
" you are such a pretty little thing, it would be a shame for you to die like this? Maybe I should keep you?" He hummed and I let out growl.
" I like them feisty" he smirked. " tell me sweetheart, will you be missed?"
I couldn't answer. My parents were missing and I was alone.
" I promise this won't hurt to awfully bad darling, but I'm gonna tell you a secret, just in case this goes badly or you try and escape, I'm going to feed you my blood. Think of it this way, I now hold your life in the palm of my hands, so don't try anything stupid"
He bit into his wrist and forced his wrist into my mouth. I tried to push him away from me but he was to strong. The coppery taste of his blood filled me senses and made me dizzy.
His wrist left my mouth and he pulled my hair away from my neck before plunging his fangs into me. I cried out in pain and tried pushing him away again. But his grip tightened. Out of the blue he yanked himself away from me in pain. His body burning in agony as he let out a scream and fell to the ground.
I felt the stake in my boot shift, and reached to grab it. I slowly slid up the tree using it as my support system. I made my way over to him. And turned him over. His mouth was covered in burns from where my vervain filled blood had touched him.
I raised the stake over my head and was about to plunge it into his heart, when I caught his eyes. He looked so human. So innocent and so much in pain. I stared at him lying underneath me. And that was my biggest mistake. In a instant his soft hands found my neck and broke it.

When I woke up he was gone and the sun was barley peaking into the early morning sky. I began to panic. I could barely process that I was in transition. I began to run again, trying to stay in the shadows and out of the suns reach as it rose higher into the sky. Every once and a while the sun would catch a patch of exposed skin and I would scream in pain.
By the time I reached the school the sun was beginning to set. I squeezed to the bars of the day and use the snow you wipe off the dried blood that laced my skin before knocking on the entrance door.
" For  the last time I already told the sheriff...Stephanie?"
" surprise" I said
Alaric looked around the school ground before letting me in. He brought me to his office and sat me down in a chair.
"What happened, you've been off the grid for months" he said
" I've been hiding out in the woods ever since mom and dad went missing...I was hoping to stay here for a couple days" I said
" Stephanie you know why I can't let you stay... it's dangerous..if some..." he was cut off by his doors flying open.
" daddy your not gonna believe what that wrench of a therapist said to me about...who the  hell are you?" A blonde girl asked
" Lizzie" Alaric cleared his throat just as a brunette came sprinting after after the blonde
" dad I'm so sorry I tried..." Alaric's cut her off
" your okay Josie" he reassured the brunette
I stood up before Alaric could introduce me " Hi, I'm Stephanie... as in Salvatore" I said holding out my hand.
The girls look at each other then me " holy shit" they said in unison
