----------------------------------------------------------------------------
My father always told me that when he met my mother, he just knew. He knew she was the love of his life and the passion between them was and still is undying. I always made it my mission to search for that undying love, to find someone who would hold me in my darkest hour, kiss me in my brightest moments and flaunt me in front of his friends with no shame.
However, sometimes, fate brings the most unexpected people into your life and I slowly came to terms with the fact that not all love is automatic and consuming, some love is unexpected and spiteful- It just takes passion to convert those feelings. Everyone's Prince Charming is unique, everyone's perception of true love is different. It just depends on the angle you view it.
"blue"
"Why blue?"
"I don't know, it reminds me of winter and I guess the ocean too"
"Michelle, this is serious"
"Franky give me a break, you've been asking me these stupid questions all day."
Franky sighs, I understand her intentions but I'm happily single. No quiz on love from some dull magazine is going to magically uncover my 'Prince Charming'. There are 7 billion people on this planet and fifty per cent of them are male. Taking into account people with preferred sexualities there's even less, but what good is some quiz going to do me?
"Michelle, sometimes I wonder if you're intentionally single" she scoffed.
"Sometimes I wonder if you were put on this earth to annoy me, but hey God's not that cruel, is he?" Rolling my eyes, I lifted myself from my comfortable position on my bed and began collecting the dirty clothes off of the dorm room floor.
"You know without me you'd be lost" Franky climbed off her bunk and indulged herself in assisting with the laundry.
Picking up my laundry basket, I made my way past Franky and out the door. Slowly making my way down the flight of stairs and into the common room of our student residency block.
"Hey, Michelle!- Michelle wait up!"
I know that voice. Turning my head slightly I could see Cameron rushing towards me.
"What's wrong Cam?"
"I- I- hell I'm unfit" he wheezed, feigning exhaustion.
"Cut to it Cam, I've got shit to do today"
His caramel eyes whirled with amusement, dimples appearing on either side of his mouth. He smiled crookedly flashing his pearly whites before running a hand through his platinum blonde hair.
"Well, Miss Sassy-pants, I was wondering if you were going to Dan's party tonight?"
"Cameron when have I ever bothered? College parties are overrated."
"You need to meet new people Mich, you can't just coup up in your dorm room reading those lame books for the rest of your life."
"Wanna bet?" I grinned cheekily.
Cameron raised an eyebrow with an amused look, the twinkle in his eye never fading as he parted his lips letting out a small chuckle.
"Mich, please? I don't want to go alone and you've got nothing better to do."
Smiling at the cockiness on his face, I shook my head. Cameron knows I can't say no to him, who could? He beamed a toothy grin, once again displaying his dimples.
"Fine." I laughed as Cameron pumped his fist in the air expressing victory.
"You're a dickhead, you know that right?" I sighed.
"I've been told a few hundred times." he shot me a sly grin. "I'll see you at 10 Mich"
"Yeah, Yeah, see you then." I pushed his shoulder playfully and continued on my way to the laundry room.
Entering the laundry room my eyes were immediately drawn to the couple making out in front of the washing machines. Get a room, for god sake. Overlooking their presence in the room and ignoring the obnoxious smacking of their lips, I slipped some coins into the coin slot and began loading my laundry into the washing machine. However, as I placed my clothes in the dryer I'm interrupted by a presence in the room. Turning around I scanned my surroundings and came into immediate proximity of the guy standing directly behind me. I looked up at him as he towered over me.
"Excuse me.."
"Sorry?" I looked into his bright blue eyes as they pierced right through me in irritation.
"I said, could you please move." he exaggeratively looked down at his watch.
Slowly I realised I'm blocking his access to the only other working washing machine.
"Oh- uh- sorry.. yeah" I stumbled out of his way with the grace of a cow in rollerskates.
That's one way to make a first impression. He looked over at the couple who were now leaning against the machines groping each other with ferocity, clearly sharing an intense moment.
He scoffed before loading his laundry, he soon realised I'm watching him and turned to me with a cocky grin and arched his eyebrow. He seemed cold and distant.
"Can I help you?" His curly black hair fell briefly in front of his eyes before he slicked it back. He was wearing a white v-neck, with a blue button-up tucked into his black slacks.
"I- well I haven't seen you around before." I directed my gaze back at his face with a deadpan expression.
"Hunter"
"Sorry? What?" I questioned.
"My name is Hunter" he reiterated himself.
Silence filled the room and after what felt like an eternity the dryer beeped, signalling my load of laundry was done. I hastily removed my clothes from the machine and placed them in my basket before making my way towards the exit. As I reached the handle of the door someone cleared their throat.
"What's your name?" the sharp and intense gaze of his piercing blue eyes met my brown eyes and I drew in a breath, the cold and bitter look in his eyes is enough to catch anyone's breath.
"Michelle"
"See you around, Michelle." with a tone that sent shivers down my spine.
With that, I shuddered and left the room believing I'd just met winter itself.
