Walking through the woods, my head covered with the green velvet hood of my cloak, I took in the beautiful spring weather as I searched for some wild growing herbs for my remedies. Spotting some stinging nettles growing near the base of a birch tree, I put on my protective gloves, made from dragon’s shed, and collected the nettles, then stripped the birch tree of some of its bark. Having rooted the nettles, I packed them in a jar, and placed them in my pouch. Contrary to what people may think, stinging nettles pounded into a paste make for a great pain relief ointment (This is true. As an aspiring herbalist, Ipromise to keep as true to the real world with potions/spells as possible).
With the ingredients I was searching for safely packed away. I stood, and began making my way to a nearby area of flowing , fresh water. Kneeling down and cupping my hands, I began to drink. Hearing a rustling, I looked up to see a forest nymph trying to hide. I smiled kindly, bowed my head, and began to walk away, motioning toward the water for her.
As I continued my way back to my cottage, the small faeries that lived in the forest followed me, circling my head as they giggled, telling me the current happenings in the forest.
“(Y/N),” A small, grey skinned faerie skittered in the air in front of my face. “We saw a vampire coming through the forest. It was heading toward the village. Keep an eye out, but be careful. You still have scars from dealing with that wendigo.”
I smiled at it. “Thanks for the warning, friend. I’ll try to be more careful.”
Last time an aggressive supernatural entity was near the village, the wendigo to be exact, I dealt with it for a small compensation from the village, in exchange for my services, the village donated fabrics, food, and some small pieces of crystal jewelry. However, while in the wendigo’s nest to save a young boy believed to still be alive - he was alive, by the by - I got scratched severely and munched upon by the creature. Using a sage, lavender, and birch bark smudge stick that was still on fire, I eradicated the wendigo and it’s negative energy, then proceeded to take the little boy to my cottage, check for any scratches or infections, then I brought him back to the village, where he proceeded to run to his mother, hug her, and wipe the tears from her eyes.
Smiling at the memory, I began to hum. No matter how hurt I got, I never regretted helping someone in need. Hearing a crack to my right, I looked over to see the white elk, staring at me. I slowly walked to him, bowing my head at his presence, and lifted my cupped hand. When I felt his cold, damp nose hit my hand, I looked up, and smiled brightly at the beautiful creature.
Unfortunately, the peace was broken when I heard the elk yell out in pain, then fall on his side. Looking further along his body. I saw an arrow protruding from his ribs, likely piercing his heart or lungs.
As carefully as I could, I knelt at the elk’s side, continuing to pet his jaw to comfort him, and I pulled the arrow from his side. He yelled again, and tears began to well up in my eyes. I hated to see such a beautiful creature in pain. Placing my hands above the bleeding hole, I focused, and willed the wound to close, hoping that I’d be quick enough to avoid infection on the elk’s part.
As the wound finished closing, I helped the elk up, and urged him to run, which he did promptly after I shooed him. Hearing cracking behind me, I turned and saw a young man, of about my age (early twenties), with pale skin, dark, black locks in an undercut, and steely blue eyes. His facial expression was set in a resting glare, and he stood at only about six centimeters taller than me (A/N - this is for me; I live in America, but the metric system is far better than inches and feet. And yes, I am shorter than Levi).
“What did you do?! That was a perfect kill! Do you know how much money is on that elk’s head! Besides, it is just a stupid animal!”
