The next morning Foxtrot debriefed with the pilots on the mission.
"Ok so are mission was a success but there some things we can improve on. Rugged has given us the 3 days off for the successful mission. Dismissed." said Foxtrot.
The pilots get up and exit the room.
"Turner you stay. We need to talk." ordered Foxtrot.
"Should I shut the door?" asked Turner.
Foxtrot responds with a nods.
"So what is it?" asked Turner.
"WHAT THE HELL WHERE YOU THINKING?!" yelled Foxtrot.
Turner is taken aback by this. Foxtrot doesn't normally yell at his squadron mate's.
"WHAT IS YOUR JOB WHEN YOUR WINGMEN IS PRESSING AN ATTACK?" rhetorically yelled Foxtrot.
"Stick on my wingmen wing." Turner responded with.
"WHAT WAS THE FIRST THING TOUGHT AT NAS PENSACOLA!" yelled Foxtrot.
"Never leave your wingmen." respond Turner.
"Avalanche almost got killed, because you saw a target of opportunity and went after it. Is that correct?" said Foxtrot.
"Yes sir." replied Turner.
"Just why? Why did you go after that mig?" asked Foxtrot.
"I know it was a major screw up. I'm sorry." replied Turner.
"Sorry isn't the biggest thing right now." said Foxtrot angered. "Your gonna be LSO for the rest of the week. Plus you gonna clean all the tools for the maintenance crews.
"Yes sir." replied Turner.
"You also better pray Rugged at least gives you a demotion. Because what you did last night is going in my after mission report." said Foxtrot.
"Your dismissed." ordered Foxtrot.
Turner exits the briefing room and heads to the locker room. She goes to drop her harness and helmet off at her locker. As she is putting her stuff up she looks at a photo of Her and Avalanche after she was rescued.
"Hay Turner." greeted Phoenix.
"Oh hi Phoenix." replied Turner.
"Are you ok?" asked Phoenix.
"Yea, I'm fine." responded Turner. "Why you ask?"
"Well the last time your helmet was in your locker was before your first sortie after you were rescued form Hoeryong." said Phoenix.
"Fine." sighed Turner.
"What happened?" asked Phoenix.
"I've been assigned LSO for the week. And I have to Clean all the tools for maintenance for the rest of the week." said Turner.
"Is it because you broke off from Avalanche?" asked Phoenix.
"That obvious." joked Turner.
"Well it might be for the best." said Phoenix.
"Yeah I understand why he did this. I'm not going to argue with him on my mistake and how costly it could have been." said Turner.
"I'm just wondering why? Did you brake Formation with Avalanche?" asked Phoenix.
"I don't really know?" said Turner.
"Ok I know your lying." said Phoenix. "Tell me the reason why."
"Fine, So you know when I was shot down?" asked Turner.
"Yes." replied Phoenix.
"Well before that I saw a SU-30 heading north like it was retreating or was low on fuel so I didn't bat an eye. But that ended up being the same SU-30 that shot me down." said Turner. "So when I saw the Mig-29 I broke off from Avalanche."
"Well I can't help you but maybe if you tell Foxtrot what was going through your mind at the time, it might help." said Phoenix.
"It's fine, but I will talk to him about it.." responded Turner.
"Well, while you rethink your life choices, I'm gonna hop in the shower and freshen up." said Phoenix.
Turner puts her stuff up and she heads to her berths (A Naval word for Bedrooms) and heads to her bunk. As she is on her phone she notices Avalanche walking by.
"Oh Avalanche I needed to talk to you." said Phoenix.
"What is it?" asked Avalanche.
"I wanted to say I'm sorry for disengaging on our last mission." said Turner.
"Why are you saying sorry?" asked Avalanche. "It's ok you saw a threat and went after it."
"As long as you thought it was a threat to you, me, the flight, and/or the mission. It's ok." said Avalanche.
"Your not excusing me for what I did are you?" Sarcastically asked Turner.
"No." replied Avalanche. "But I am saying that you saw a threat and went after it."
"Well I got to go. See you later honey." said Avalanche giving Turner a kiss on the cheek.
She gives Avalanche a kiss before she heads back to her berth and try's to relax.
About an hour goes by before Phoenix rushes into the berth.
"What the hell?" asked Turner.
"Emergency...Mandatory... meeting NOW!" said Phoenix breathing heavily.
"What, why?" worried Turner.
"Just come with me." replied Phoenix.
She gets off the bunk and follows Phoenix.
"What is going on?" asked Turner.
"We just been ordered to be relieve allied forces." said Phoenix. "Foxtrot will fill us in during briefing."
Turner grabs her helmet and follows Phoenix to the briefing room.
"We have a new operation." said Foxtrot "Operation Thundering Fortress."
"The 3rd armored division is being held down by Iranian armor." said Foxtrot. "The enemy forces are located at on a Mountain side. We have been ordered to relieve pressure on our allied ground forces, so we will launch AGM-65 Maverick missiles at the enemy armor. When we get wheels up, we will fly heading 015 to Khuzestan."
He places marks on the holographic map. He turns the setting to bring up a 3D image of the map showing terrain elevations, and geographic features.
He rotates the map and marks the known location of the enemy forces. He sends a program to the map showing the pilots route.
They will approach the target at 1000ft then descend to 400ft where they will launch their AGM-65 Maverick J missiles.
"Brooks you and your flight will do the attacking job, while my flight will provide top cover just in case the Iranian pilots want to pick a fight." said Foxtrot.
"When do we launch?" asked Avalanche.
"When they order us but it will probably be soon, so I suggest you get all of your equipment ready." replied Foxtrot. "Our maintenance crew are already inspecting our aircraft."
"Dismissed." ordered Foxtrot.
The pilots exit the room but Turner goes to talk to Foxtrot about what happened.
"Foxtrot." said Turner.
"Yes Turner." responded Foxtrot.
"We need to talk." said Turner.
"Shut the door." replied Foxtrot.
"I wanted to talk about our last mission." said Turner. "I'm not here to make excuses. I'm here to say that I'm sorry for what I did and I would like to ask to be reinstated into your flight."
"Ok." said Foxtrot.
"Thank you sir." replied Turner.
"Dismissed." ordered Foxtrot.
As Turner exited the briefing room the intercom comes on.
"VFA-52 scramble to launch!" the intercom announced.
"Alright let's go!" yelled Foxtrot exiting the briefing room.
The pilots rush to there jets.
Turner runs to her berth and grabs her helmet before rushing to her jet.
As she climbs abroad her plane and looks over to see Avalanche strapping into his jet.
She smiles a little and hops into her jet.
She closes the canopy and straps her mask on.
"Ok pilots let go save are allies." said Foxtrot.
He taxies up to the catapult.
The catapult crew slides the launch bar into the catapult shuttle.
"Foxtrot you are clear for launch." said ATC. "Climb and maintain 15 thousand fly and maintain heading 000, for 30 then fly heading 010 for 200."
"Roger ATC." said Foxtrot.
He salutes the The Catapult shooter, and is launched into the sky.
