"I've been cursed" Werne simply said.

As if it explained everything.

Alex's gaze wandered to the full moon visible behind window glass. Werne rewarded it with a chuckle. It was a small sad sound.

Alex turned away from the window and back to the being that sat on his bed. He tried to think of right questions.

None came to mind. What 'right' even meant in this case?

He opened and closed his mouth few times, not unlike a fish out of water. Some part of his brain that wasn't currently overwhelmed with situation thought that it was funny how fitting this metaphor was.

Werne took pity on the confused human. He was nothing but kind to him so far. He was doing his best. It was not Alex's fault. He never should deal with this burden.

"I've been cursed" Werne repeated. "Twice"

"At first I hoped that spells would neutrilize each other. Turned out I was wrong. Apparently 'And you shall become a wolf' is far more complicated that anyone thought. And now, here I am. A wolf most of a time and a man during full moons. A reversed werewolf? Werehuman? Wereman? You could call me that"

"I think I'll stick to 'Werne'" offered Alex.

Werne smiled.

"Thank you" he said "For everything. Help. Food. Clothes. If there is a way I can repay you..."

Alex suddenly had an idea. If Werne agreed it would make his life so much easier.

"Actually, there is one thing" he said

"I'd be very grateful if you could keep an eye out on my cat. She likes to run away"

Not-really-a-werewolf erupted with laughter.

"Sure thing, Alex" he said "I think we're going to get on together just fine"
