A little different from traditional fixed bullet or dome IP security camera systems, these "fisheye" cameras provide an ultra-wide, panoramic view that is capable of covering a large area constantly. This means no breaks in the image, which is accompanied by no reduction in image quality whatsoever (a potential issue with the large area of coverage) – a one stop solution for all your seamless surveillance needs.
As the name suggests, these cameras offer a fisheye view of the coverage area, so some parts of the image near the edges of the field of coverage may appear distorted but the level of distortion is tolerable and more than made up for by the uninterrupted image with no breaks in quality.
Primarily, the 360-degree variant of the fisheye camera is used but another variant of this type of camera exists – the 180-degree version. Both the variants are equally reliable, the only difference being the area of coverage, as is suggested by their trade names.
Installation procedures for these types of security cameras are fairly straightforward and do not vary from the norm to an extent that would be worth mentioning. But when installing these fisheye cameras, one does need to keep in mind a few things:
● Keeping in mind the distortion that is already present in the image being transmitted (although minimal), it would be best to place a 360-degree variant in the centre of a ceiling or a similar central location with respect to the desired area of coverage – this will minimize the added distortion of the areas near the edges that may have caused problems in the accuracy of the surveillance if the camera was placed somewhere near the corner.
● The camera should also be placed at an adequate distance from light sources; being too close to a light source will essentially "blind" one area of the image and lead to loss of surveillance data at that point.
Fisheye cameras are cost-effective and efficient, with minimum installation labour and almost no extra accessories that are required for its functioning. Be it one's home or one's business, the fisheye camera has got it covered.
