Korra POV

I looked over at where Mako was passed out on the ground. He seemed fine and every once in a while he twitched oddly.

“Should we…?” Bolin asked as he pointed at his passed out brother his voice unsure.

“Nah. I got it.” I said before walking over to where he was and bending over, putting my mouth close to his ear.

“WAKE UP DUMBASS!” I yelled at the top of my lungs. This startled him awake and he sat up rubbing his head. Did he know why he fainted?

“Wait, why am I on the grou…” He trailed off as his eyes widened comically. He looked up and locked eyes with me. I kept his gaze as the butterflies that I hadn’t felt since I left started to flutter in my stomach once more. I watched as his shock faded out and it was replaced by a warm smile that made my heart skip a few beats. His eyes bore into mine with nothing but happiness and… was that love? My heart stopped completely. ‘He still loves me. He wasn’t lying when he said always.’ I offered him my hand and he took it and stood up. The feeling of his hand on mine sent tingles up and down my spine. His eyes were still locked on mine. The spell was broken by a hand on my shoulder. I turned around to see my father holding my other two children. I took them from him and turned back around to face Mako.  He looked at the babies in my arms then back up to me. He seemed to be asking me a question with his eyes. ‘Are they mine?’ I took a deep breath,

“Yes. Mako they are your children.” I said smiling. His smile grew impossibly big and before I knew it, the kids and I were gathered up in his arms in a hug. I buried my face in his shoulder and breathed in and almost cried with relief. ‘Spirits I missed this. He smells just like I remember him. Spice and a little bit of smoke.’ I was broken out of my thoughts because I noticed Mako shaking. I pulled back worried and focused on his face. ‘Hes…crying?!’ The tears were streaming down his face yet he had a smile on his lips.

“Mako… if the kids and I being here makes you like that, then we can leave. I’m sorry I did this to you.” I said tearing up. Immediately his grip on me tightened and he stopped crying.

“What? No, no. Korra I don’t want you to leave. I was crying tears of  joy. I mean one day I’m living by myself and lonely and the next day I have three children. THREE.” He laughed weakly and cupped my face with both his hands.

“Korra… I want you to know I wasn’t lying when I said ‘Always’. Ever since we broke up I have barely had any sleep. All I can think about is you. Korra. And now that we have them,” he gestured to the sleeping bundles in my arms, “Its finally time I tell you… I love you Korra. Always have, always will.” With that he leaned down and pressed his lips gently to mine. He tasted of more spices. After a while his lips separated from mine and rested his forehead on mine. Then…

“Ok it was sweet at first but now I realized we haven’t eaten yet and I’m SUPER HUNGRY!” Bolin whined. Without missing a single beat Mako turned to Bolin, looked him dead in the eyes and said,

“Hi hungry. I’m Dad.”  It was silent as we all facepalmed at the dad joke. Though I did hear Tenzin whisper, “He’s ready.” Which made us all giggle. Bolin looked around.

“No seriously, I’m hungry.” He whined some more. We all shook our heads. Classic Bolin. Mako looked at Tenzin and asked for his baby girl. Tenzin readily agreed and handed her to him. He looked down at her and smiled.

“Beautiful. Just like her mother.” He said and I blushed. He walked back over to me and looked at the two in my arms. The girl was awake and looked like the female version of Mako. The boy was not awake but he looked like a combination of us both. Mako’s skin tone, and my eye color.  He looked at me and asked if I had named them yet.

“I named these two.” I said gesturing to the babies in my arms. “The girl is Zara and the boy is AJ. For Aang Jr.” He nodded and looked at the girl in his arms.

“What about her?” He said as she woke up. She took one look at Mako and giggled. A tiny hand came up and grabbed his finger. He smiled down at her and said, “Mayleen.” I looked up confused. I heard Bolin gasp.

“Mayleen?” I said. He looked at me with a melancholy smile.

“It was my mother’s name.” I sucked in a breath. Of course. Why didn’t I think of that? Mako had once said that he looked just like his mother. And Mayleen looked just like him.

“ I love it.” He came over and looked down at Zara and AJ. “Zara and Mayleen are both firebenders. And AJ is a waterbender. Looks like you’ll have your hands full, because you do know we have to teach them how to bend right?” He stopped smiling for a second and had an ‘oh shit’ look on his face.

“Yeah and if they’re anything like Korra you really are gonna have your hands full.” Tenzin butted in obviously recalling teaching me airbending.

“Oh come on, I wasn’t that bad!” I said while pouting. Mako just chuckled and leaned down and kissed my hair. He wrapped his arms around us and leaned his forehead against mine. I closed my eyes enjoying the moment. “Ya know,” he said making me open my eyes. He was already looking at me. “I think we’ll be just fine.” And I smiled.
