SUPER long chapter!! Hope you enjoy!
For younger audiences, beware of mild language and romance. If this story is too much for you, I hope you'll look into reading 'A Mermaid's Dream' instead :)○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○
"Well? Did you?!" My mother flicked on the lights to reveal my frightened face.
"Um...I-I..."
"What the hell were you thinking?! Sneaking out? You are delusional!" She screamed.
"YOU CAN'T CONTROL MY LIFE! GET THE HELL OUT OF MY ROOM!" I don't know where it came from, but I said it and I couldn't take it back.
My mother widened her eyes in shock. She was speechless. Instead of yelling, she walked out the door.
I threw myself on my bed and cried into my pillow.
I grabbed my phone and clicked Ren's name without thinking.
Bing....bing....bing....Hello?
It was so soothing to hear his voice. This was my first time I had ever called him.
Hey...
My voice was full of croak from crying so hard.
Is everything alright?! Do I need to come over?
No..no... you couldn't, even if I wanted you to. I've really thought hard about this, I think I finally know what I'm going to do.
What are you talking about, Claire? Don't you dare hurt yourself.
There's no way out, and it's all so confusing... I just want to hold your hand right now...
Tell me everything....I won't judge you.
My mom has never cared about me. She always had a strange hate toward everything after I was born. They always make me wear contacts, they're uncomfortable and they hurt. I've never really seen my reflection, because we don't own a mirror. She threw them out when I was born. I've always felt so out of place in this world, and I would do anything if I could just be different. Every time I see myself in the water's reflection I feel like a hideous alien....
But you're so beautiful...
It startled me. For two reasons.
Well, no ones called me beautiful before, and his voice sounded closer than ever.
Look outside your window.
I drew back my black curtains and looked to the ground. I saw Ren standing below the window with a phone pressed to his cheek. His brown eyes almost sparkled in the moonlight.
I threw my phone down and pushed up the window.
He smiled when he saw me. I couldn't stand not being near him. He makes me feel so safe.
So I jumped.
I fell into his arms, but he wasn't surprised.
"You actually like me? After only one night?" He held me close and looked into my eyes.
"I don't know what I feel. I've never met anyone as mysterious as you Claire. Any other girl who likes me just throws themselves on me...but your different. This has never happened to me before."
"We need to talk." I said and he let go of me and layed down on the grass with his hands behind his head.
I lay down beside him with my hands behind my head too.
"Now tell me about your parents again." He asked, not taking his eyes off the stars.
"She's...." I take a deep breath before adding, "She never understands me...and my dad, well he's too busy 'comforting' my mom to care about me. It really gets me thinking, they wouldn't give two sh*ts if I dissappeared. They wouldn't come looking for me." I sigh and blink. A single tear falls down my cheek.
"I really understand you. I'm not just that friend that agrees with you, but doesn't really understand. Like they might say 'oh man, that really sucks' but they'll never understand the struggles and pain you go through on a daily basis."
'He actually gets it...' I think to myself.
He continued, "My parents -well, guardian- is always disgusted by me. She is so hung up on me becoming something that will do good for the whole world. She tried to get me to sign up for the Walters Transformation Foundation. Do you know what that is?" He turned his head and looked at me, terrified out of his mind, with tears forming in his eyes.
I shook my head. I had only heard about it.
"They kill people, Claire. Innocent people, like us. They kill those who stand up for themselves, who want to be different. They don't know how it is to feel like there's some secret about you, that everyone else knows about, except you...it hurts so much. It feels good to meet someone that gets it."
I had no idea what he meant by 'different people like us' but right in that moment there was no where in the entire world I'd rather be.

Did u love the chapter? I tried to avoid the cliché as much as possible, but I still hope u enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it!Check out my special chapter picture :3 I feel this one is the best for this part of the story. If you have time, listen to 'Thinking out loud' by ed sheeran that's what the picture is based off of.
I'm actually very proud of Contingent! It's much more mature than A Mermaid's Dream, yet just as suspenseful! Be ready for the next chapter!!!
