only when she wears shades it becomes dark, so she stands out in the sun.
"you like the roses?" mackenzie's doctor asked. she normally paid no attention to them, but today she did. "they look so cool! and johnny likes them" doctor pierce smiled lightly at her comment. he remembered her saying how much she hated roses because the garden only had one color of them.
"come on mackenzie, it's time to tell me what you dreamt of" she followed behind her doctor to the patio surrounded my tulips. she looked to her left to see if johnny was still there, sitting next to her.
"you may start now" doctor pierce said after taking his notepad out. "um..i really don't want to talk about it"
"it's better if you do mackenzie. that way i can help you" mackenzie frowned, they go through this everytime and her doctor is always gentle when it comes to this. "you're brave mackenzie, you can do this" doctor pierce encouraged her to speak, but all it did was bring back her memories of her mother and sister's death.
how she did nothing to save them, and she feels horribly guilty for it.
mackenzie's hand started twitching and she tried to hold it still. doctor pierce put his hand on hers, "it's okay mackenzie. did you take your medicine today? come on, we can go get them" her doctor smiled at her as he took her hand and led the way to the front desk.
"here, take them mackenzie and you'll calm down" doctor pierce held out his hand with the two small pills, waiting for mackenzie to grab them. she pushed his hand away and shook her head. "i don't wanna. they make me feel weird"
"but it's good for you..please mackenzie, don't make this harder on yourself" mackenzie became aware of the situation, she knew exactly what would happen if she didn't obey. "you'll get the guards on me, won't you?" it hurt him, everytime he had too. he never wants to hurt mackenzie, but when she doesn't listen..he has no choice.
"fine. i'll take them" the lady at the front desk pulled a water bottle from a cabinet behind her and gave it to mackenzie.
mackenzie was then taken back to her room, to get ready for her bath. the maidens have to wash her since she doesn't want to herself, and because it's dangerous. many patients like her go through the same thing.
but when she arrived to her room she realized something was missing. "johnny?" she looked around her room frantically, not knowing what she conjures is only in her head.
mackenzie was uncooperative the entire bath. she continuously splashed the water in the maidens face, bit her anytime she would try and wash mackenzie's hair, and screamed the entire time she was getting rinsed off.
she never acted like this before. well, not on some occasions. the maidens only had to deal with her not wanting the bath in the first place.
of course there were consequences. mackenzie was sent back to her room with no dinner, not that she would mind anyway. once the guards got word of her behavior, they were sent to her room to inject some sort of toxin into her arm.
mackenzie hated the feeling and surely tried to run away before the guards even touched her. "no! stop! please!!" more guards were sent to her room, to hold her down. mackenzie's eyes focused on the door as they pulled her back by her arms. she was trying so hard to run out of there, but nothing was working.
"johnny! johnny please!" the guard with the needle in his hand laughed. "johnny is not here. he's not real! now hold still so we can get this over with!" tears brimmed at the edge of mackenzie's eyes. she didn't want to believe want he told her. but..johnny wasn't here right now to convince her otherwise.
"where is he?! what have you done with him?!" mackenzie pulled harder, running at full speed, until she broke out and headed for the door. but she was stopped by the warden who had just showed up.
the warden stretched out his hand and forcefully grabbed mackenzie's neck, pushing her into the wall behind them. she held onto his hands, trying to pull them off. "warden. you're hurting her" doctor pierce spoke out of the room. "she needs to be hurt. she needs to understand the consequences for when she does not listen!" the warden stared at mackenzie and she was afraid to move a muscle.
letting go of his hands she slowly became lifeless in front of him. that's when the warden let her fall to the ground. "hand me the syringe" he rolled up his sleeves and bent down to mackenzie's level, running his hand through her hair then holding on her chin.
she let tears cascade down her face, still searching for johnny and why he wasn't here when she needed him. mackenzie had a scared look in her eyes, she so badly hated needles. only making her cry more once it went into her skin.
her whole body went numb and she slowly drifted off to sleep. the warden left her on the floor and walked out the door to doctor pierce. "put mackenzie in her bed, the rest of you can get back to work" without hearing what the doctor had to say, he left his sight. along with the rest of the guards who exited mackenzie's room.
doctor pierce took no hesitation and rushed to her. she seemed like a dead body and he felt so bad for her. he understands that disobedience is not tolerated here, but he didn't have to choke her.
he saw the tears still left on her face and left the room to find a towel. after retrieving one, he cleaned her off. he was happy with how he left her, until he saw the bruises on her wrist. that..couldn't be wiped away.
