Jennifer pulled her jacket tighter around herself, more for security than for the temperature. She was all alone, walking back to the hotel. It was not a long trip, but it was dark and deserted outside. And she could not help but feel like someone was watching her. Every time she looked behind her, no one was there, but that did not ease her suspicion that someone was lurking.
"Just a few more blocks," she whispered to herself as she continued to walk.
Crash
Jennifer nearly jumped out of her skin when she heard the sound. She might have frozen in fear had she not seen a cat scurry out of the alley she had heard the noise coming from.
Just as she turned her attention away from the alley, her eyes locked with the eerie bluish white ones.
"Kane," she breathed. "W-what are you doing here?" She asked as she slowly began to step back.
When her back came in contact with the wall behind her, she let out a cruse.
The sadistic grin formed on his face as he continued to step closer and closer until he was just inches away from her cowering body.
"You parents sent me to come and check up on you. You know making sure you aren't getting into trouble while they have their backs turned."
"Well, you can tell Stephanie and Hunter I am doing just fine. Now, if you don't mind, I would really like to get back to the hotel, I am quite tired."
He took a step back. "Oh, of course. Why don't I escort you?"
"That is so kind of you to offer, but it is just a little bit further, I will be there in no time!" She nervously laughed.
"Well, I insist."
Jennifer swallowed the lump in her throat. "I-" before she could come up with something else to say, she heard footsteps to the right of her.
"Everything okay, here?"
She looked to the side at the approaching Samoan and moved her head from side to side ever so gently to let him know it wasn't.
"Everything is fine. Her parents just asked me to make sure she got home okay. You know how girls can be!"
"Yes, I do know. And I know when one is clearly uncomfortable. Why do you take a step back and give her some space?"
As soon as he stepped back, Jennifer raced over to Roman's side before she even knew what she was doing.
"Oh, don't be like that! I didn't do a damn thing to you aside from offer to walk you home!" Kane protested.
"Well, I'm headed that way so I will walk her the rest of the way. You have yourself a good night now," with that, Roman placed his hand on the small of her back and led her past the monster of a man and toward the hotel.
They walked in silence to the hotel. It was not until they were under the street light in the parking lot of the hotel that either of them spoke.
"Are you okay?" Roman finally asked.
"Thanks to you I am."
"What was all that about anyway?"
"My parents sent him after me. I don't even want to think about what would have happened if you had not appeared."
