"Nightshade's next target is-"

"Head set." I tapped my temple as I made my way to her and Erica's computers, "Any visuals?" Both shook their head.

"Send word to Reed and Eight. Make sure they know to be on stand by," once again both nodded, "Good. Uh, Annabelle?" She clicked her tongue, "Dinner's still on?" I turned in time to see her smile,

"If you're not in the hospital, that is," Erica rolled her eyes,

"That was once!" Our automatic doors opened, both girls laughing , "Love you both," and I was gone.

The air was cold, the rain was cold, everything was cold. I had been waiting in hiding for hours, I had checked the coordinates, I had called the girls to confirm, I had double checked.

Still nothing.

Now, you might be thinking, 'it's just a villain, why would they care to be on time?' Well, Nightshade was very stitchy about being on time, they did their best to be one time.

Not all villains are the bad guys.

In this story Nightshade was, but, in others-

The ground shook. Jumping to my feet and looking around, a text from Annabelle appeared on screen.

'Wrong coordinates, school on southeast.'

Goddamn it!

"No!" As if that would fucking help, as if the universe would hear my cries and stop. I knew it wouldn't.

I had been held back by four police officers, all insisting I wouldn't walk back out if I went in.

Bullshit. All of it was fucking bullshit.

There were children in that burning-half blown up building, police and firemen were in that damn building.

But my life was more important to these people than their kids and coworkers.

Bullshit.

"Let me go!" I pulled and shoved back, trying to get them to let me go, but they held.

In a glimpse I saw a screaming woman, she looked pissed, scared. She had been screaming at the Chief of Police.

Everything was very loud.

Out of nowhere, everything crashed down into me.

"My daughter is in there!"

"Ma'am you need to stay calm, we are doing everything we can to help her and her classmates," the mother held such fear for her child, and it made sense.

I needed to get inside the building-

Everyone was thrown to the side, pain shattered through my left shoulder and head, the world went black.

"I could have helped them! I could have saved them!" Annabelle cried in front of me as I screamed,

"There was nothing-"

"Nothing I could have done?" I cut her off, my voice cold, distant, "Anna, they were children, little kids!" I watched her cry, I felt myself crying, "Officers and Firefighters doing their jobs, people willing to die, and left to die by those they trusted! I could've done ANYTHING to help them..." I cracked, pressing the back of my hand to my mouth. "I should have helped them, now they're ash, they're all..." Gone.

"Cain knows the location," Nicole whined,

"Good," I kissed her forehead before shrugging my coat on,

"I'll see you at ten, okay?" She frowned, but nodded, "I love you," she only nodded again.
