Asai's POV

I stood by the door, pressing my ear against it. What was my father talking about with these strange men?

"...they're going to come..."

"...we just don't have the money to go somewhere else...."

"...there's going to be an attack..."

"...your family are going to be the first targets..."

Targets? Attack? Money? My head spun with all these crazy thoughts and different questions. And who were these people that my father and his friends spoke of? I continued to listen, opening up the door a little more.

"Ichigo, they know what you done. They know that your in debut, and they're not happy about it. The best thing to do is-"

"I know what the best thing to do is!" My fathers voice boomed through the room, making me jump a little. "I just don't have the money to send my family away!"

"Stop lying!" Another mans voice said. "We all know it's because your too selfish to send your family away, and your too cowardly to face them and apologise!"

"I am not cowardly!" My father fought back. "I will not let my family go!"

"This is frustrating to watch," a man sighed. "I'm going. I feel extremely for the woman that dared to marry you, and the children that look up to you. I hope that your son doesn't turn out like you."

That was my queue to run away. I sped up the stairs, and hid under my covers, hearing my father shout at the men. I was old enough, or at least I thought, to understand what was going on as I lay on my bed. My father was in debut to someone, or some people like an organisation, and he was refusing to give the money back, so the organisation was planning an attack on his home with me, Sho and my brother were home, but he was refusing to send us away. So he was a coward.

From that moment I knew that my father was a horrible, horrible man. They way he spoke to his friends, the way he refused to send us away for his own benefit. From that moment on, I knew I had to protect my little brother even if it meant getting me killed.

And sure enough, it did.

I could see them emerging out of the corner of my eye. But I had to keep going, I had to finish what I was was explaining to Sho. If anything that was going to keep my little brother alive, it was love. When my father and my mother and I were gone, he had to learn to love.

"...A different type of love. When you experience this love with someone, you must hold onto them dearly, feed them, care for them, make sure they-"

My head aching. I fell to the ground, my whole body trembling in pain. I could faintly see the blood gushing out of me, and felt myself coughing up. I tried to say my dear little brothers name as he was taken away from me, screaming mine, but suddenly everything went very very bright....and then pitch blackness....
