Brett Hotchkins

If you were to enter the room at the very end of the hall on the second floor of Avery House, you would learn everything that you ever needed to know about Brett Hotchkins. You would notice two bottles of pink Purell hand sanitizer neatly placed on her shiny mirrored desk right next to the latest rose gold version of the MacBook Pro. This would tell you how much of a clean freak she is, courtesy of her mother aka one of the best wedding planners in the entire country. You would notice her overflowing closet stuffed to the capacity with designer items and the unnecessary amount of shiny designer shoeboxes stacked in the corner. This would tell you that she has a bit of an issue with retail therapy, and when even just a little bit of stress invades her mind she's at the shops downtown swiping her problems away.

And eventually, you'd notice her either studying, sending out emails for her overflow of extra curriculars, or shopping online. But today, Brett Hotchkins was in panic mode. It was the first day back to school after winter break and she was ten minutes away from being late, and being late was simply unacceptable.

Tinsley Ashcroft laid back on her best friend's full size bed, secretly seething because Brett had once again snagged the only single room in the entire dorm and had sent at least five messages in the group chat bragging about it. I guess being the daughter of the mayor really did have it's perks. Tinsley's gorgeous black tendrils formed a halo around her head as she chipped away at her Chanel Peridot nail polish and listened to her best friend stress about being late for one of her many academic commitments.

"Tins, have you seen my phone?" Brett questioned, shrugging into the Gucci trench coat that had been a Christmas gift from her parents, trying desperately to erase the worry lines on her forehead. Tinsley thought that she was the queen of losing her belongings but whenever Brett got into that annoying, panicky mode when she couldn't think straight she couldn't find a thing.

Tinsley sat up and pulled Brett's phone out of the pocket of her favorite pair of faded Levi's. She had retrieved the very item that Brett had made known as her lifeline from Starbucks earlier that morning because Brett was too preoccupied to grab it off of the table.

Brett gratefully took her phone from Tinsley and bolted out of her dorm room, already knowing that Tinsley would lock up behind her whenever she decided to leave. It was the first day back on campus after winter break but Brett had already been commissioned by the dean of student affairs to direct a tour for a newly accepted student, which was surprising because Octavian Hills only accepted students in the fall, never in the winter/spring. The student had to be the child of some extremely important politician to be accepted now. A new student accepted in the middle of the school year? That would definitely be interesting.
