Chapter 5: Musical Direction

Interviewer: “If you couldn’t of had the name One Direction, what would you be called?” Harry: “Uh, Direction One.”

Two hours to go till the concert. By this stage, Lily was starting to have brief periods of hyperventilation and had re-applied her makeup so many times that she had exhausted her supply of mascara. It had also continued raining so all of this mascara (which had some how yet to blind her or erode her eyes) was beginning to smudge. Not even half an hour of walking around town and she looked like a panda.

Hence, she earned the nickname 'Panda', which of course, she did not understand.

"Why do you keep calling me that?" She complained.

"I don't know, Panda, why am I calling you that?"

She looked disgruntled.

"I asked you that!"

"So did I."

.

"Oh."

"Yes, Panda."

She blinked stupidly, and then turned her attention to a poodle passing by.

I sighed and held my new jacket - purchased solely for this occaison at some charity shop - tighter against me. This weather was shit. I wouldn't be surprised if the concert was cancelled at this rate, since it's an outdoor advent and all, but no news of the hoped for cancellation as of yet. Posters seemed to have appeared around the town and they read something along the lines of this:

ONE DIRECTION AT CONCERT IN THEIR LOCAL TOWN

There was also some picture of five guys like the ones of Lily's phone holding microphones to their lips as they danced around on stage. Looking around, I realised that the town was crammed with posters, large rectangles of colours and words being blurred and destroyed by the British weather. Pretty.

Realising that Lily was hyperventalating again, I patted her back in a reassuring fashion.

"Oh my gosh, there's like five lucky tickets, what if I don't get one?" She panted.

Then her eyes widened.

"Or worse, I get one and then I actually go and see them! Do I look good enough? More makeup?"

"Meh."

"Meh? What does that mean? Oh my gosh, and -"

People were giving me weird looks again. I patted her back harder.

"I don't have any mascara left! I need to get to a Boots quick!"

"You do realise that there's almost an hour and a half till the concert starts and we should be getting there in an hour?"

"What?" She almost shrieked.

I showed her my watch.

"Holy, Holy, Holy, Holy Spirit! I'm like so not prepared! Look at me, Mendy! Look at me!"

"You look fine, Panda."

"Fine? Fine is just not good enough, I have to be fabulous, I have to be beautiful! I have to make Louis fall in love with me, and Harry, too!"

I scowled at her; it felt like I was doing too much of that lately... scowling...

"You're beautiful," I said sourly. "Come on! We need to get moving."

She jogged along behind me, tying her hair up, letting it down, smacking her lips together with more lip gloss, and smoothing out her eyebrows repeatedly. She was the definition of panic.

"We need to get to the concert, Mendy!"

"I know, I know! We're going there, see?"

"Is this the right way?"

"Of course it's the right way."

So Lily, or Panda, followed me like the little lost puppy she was as we trotted off in direction of music. This day had possibly been the worst of my life so far, and the concert would have to be amazing to make any of this crap worthwhile. God had punished me, I was certain of it, being dumped with Panda for a day to go to some concert for some boyband whilst the British Weather showed off it's colours. To say I was in a bad mood would be a complete and total understatement.
