The Mist

I come from eternity years, buried cities, cemeteries that sing songs to me, that are long forgotten by others. I come from a vast time. That’s why I’m never the same, as the same is not my town, therefore I can’t name my stories but I know one thing that this story would last forever in the minds of mine, and the people that where there. The story of a mist that became a nightmare.

‘We welcome the arrival of a phantom at sunset only to rue its departure at sunrise. What is it?’ That’s the first thing I saw when I opened the box to hell, the infernal hell. I never would suggested that a strange riddle, with only one answer, could lead out a creature that would of defeated the whole world.

I didn’t know where else to go, as my existence was nigh defeated by my curse, I couldn’t live in the same place for long that’s why I searched for a new one.

I found a great place. Small town. Small population. Great place for a man with one face. I never liked living in town, so I found a small, pleasant house, next to the cemetery and on that same day our nightmare began.

There was a full moon on that day the star were shining bright covering the dark sky. There was no wind just the sound of nature, flowing through my ears as there, were trying to tell me something. As I went further and further on to the forest, the noise got quieter and quieter, even thou there was a stream of river flowing next to me. As I went further on, so did the smell. From natural sweetness and purity to death and incubus.

After walking for few minutes I saw a gate. Frightened. That’s what I felt when I was standing close but at the same time far away from the gate I  felt hypnotized to its signs and look. After returning to real life I stepped through the gate and heard death calling my name - “I know it couldn’t be real. Death calling my name?” then I heard silence like everything around me died, and then I saw it. The mist coming my way but at the same time showing me something. When I started going its way I saw… “No it couldn’t be real”, I saw the little town covered in blood and something… “Ouch!” I hit a big box. It didn’t look as a normal box. I could feel that something was wrong. The mist started to overcome me. That was when I saw the riddle – “We welcome the arrival of phantom at sunset only to rue its departure at sunrise. What is it?”, Not knowing when I answered the question and the mist blinded me for few seconds, these few seconds changed me and the place I was.

I was on the cemetery by my house the full moon was still shining but the stars on the dark night got hiding by the mist. At that moment I knew something was wrong. At that moment I knew that all my eternity years and stories that will never be told will die right with me in this town.

The mist was a mystery as I was. I ran as fast I could to town to warn others but they already knew something was wrong. I believed in God but a church, isn’t a good hiding place for something that is unknown. When everyone around got in we saw a man covered in blood, running our way, and the mist was few meters away from him and us. We opened the door to let him in, but he tripped. We heard one last thing coming out of him. Help. And that’s the last we heard and saw of him, the mist took him. After that we locked the doors and windows. Some prayed and some cried, but everyone was probably thinking what’s that man doing here just after the mist came. They didn’t tell me that, but I knew they were blaming me, and they were right.

A thump noise scared us all. I looked through the window and saw nothing but after a second … Bang! Noise and a half, from head to toe man was thrown at the window, I noticed it was the same man that screamed help few minutes before.

After few hours the windows could handle the mist and they started to crack. We didn’t know what to do, when the first window cracked the people started to panic. All the lights went off we tried to keep calm and quite, but we couldn’t, we hid under the chairs and tables and something went in. we didn’t know what it was but we tried not to panic, “Shhh it’s coming our way!” it moved slowly but at the same time fast in our eyes the fear was eating us from the inside, but what could we do. Luckily no one got hurt the thing diapered with the mist. As fast as we could, we locked the windows with some wood that was left so the cracks would be filled. But that was useless. The people started to panic.
