Mary sobbed into her pillow. She didn't want Francis to look at her this way. This shouldn't affect her as it did. This wasn't the first time she had a miscarriage, in fact she had 2 before. Mary should have known that something was wrong. Her family was plagued by miscarriages, in fact her mother struggled to conceive for 3 years before Mary was born, so Mary should have been prepared for the bleeding and the aches in the middle of the night. Francis had been gone to watch John in his nursery as Lola and Narcisse were on their honeymoon. Francis was sleeping in the nursery next to the baby.

Mary lifted her head as the door opened and revealed her mother-in-law. Catherine sighed and came to sit next to the dark haired woman. Mary sobbed and buried her face into Catherine's dress on her lap. Catherine pet the dark hair back as the girl cried over her 3rd miscarriage. "Everything will be okay Mary. We can tell Francis when he wakes." Catherine tried to soothe the Queen of Scotland. Mary shook her head as she lifted her head and faced the woman. She was wearing her silk nightgown and had the duvet of her and Francis' bed pooling at her lap.

"No I don't want to tell Francis. I'll tell him tonight. He is so excited to finally spend the entire day with John without Lola. I don't want him to worry." Mary said. Catherine sighed and hugged the girl. "Francis would want to know. It's his job to worry about you, he is not Henry, he cares." Mary shook her head.

"No. I'll tell him later tonight."

Mary hadn't left her room all day and Francis was getting worried. The guards wouldn't let him into the bedroom on orders of the Queen. Francis had spotted his mother coming in and out of the bedroom. Francis groaned for the 20th time that day at the guards saying that he was not allowed in.

"I am the dauphin of France and this is me and my wife's chambers. I would like to go in and stay with her." Francis ordered. "Don't try Francis." Francis turned and saw Mary's ladies walking towards him. "No one is allowed in or out except for your mother. On orders of Mary." Kenna stated. Francis groaned and hit his back against the wall, sliding down onto the floor.

"Something happened earlier. We don't know but we know that Mary is not doing good right now." Greer said. Francis stood as his mother opened the door. "Francis. Come on inside." Francis walked past his mother as he watched his wife. She was laying on her side, her back to him, so he got on the other side and crawled onto the bed.

"Mary. Mary baby what happened?" Francis asked. He stroked her cheek as she lifted her head from the pillows. He laid down and waved for everyone to leave. He kissed Mary's cheek before holding her hand. "I lost the baby." Francis sighed and tears collected in his eyes. "And you kept it for the past day, refusing to let me in the room so you could mourn without me?" She nodded and hugged him. Francis kissed her head and rubbed her back. "I didn't want you to be upset with me. I know that my miscarriages disappoint you and make a mockery of the next king of France. You have no real heirs to take your throne when you die." Mary whispered. "I could never be upset with you. Yes it is upsetting that we continue to lose our children but we will have some. Trust me." Francis whispered to her.

She nodded. Knowing that at some point they would have children.
