“Stop!” I shouted as I wiped fresh blood from my nose.
“No, you need to learn to block my punches or Abaddon will kill you in an instant” Marian was seriously starting to get on my nerves. She adjusted her ponytail of long, silky, black hair and held out her hand for me to grab.
“Blocking punches is an important thing but I have my powers, he won’t have time to even try and hit me” I explained.
“But you’re forgetting that he is the strongest demon that ever lived. He’s gonna have a few powers up his sleeve as well and you need to be ready”
“So teach me to fight with my powers!”
“Fine” she said, irritation clear in her voice.
Marian explained how her power is control over the air and she will attack me using air and I just have to fight her off. Simple.
“Air isn’t the best element I could have been given to have control over but hey, it’s better than some things. Of course this fight will be easy for you as you have more than just one power but it will be the closest you get to fighting Abaddon”
We circled each other for a bit as we waited for someone to make the first move. I stared her down and hoped she wouldn’t notice my veins starting to glow with the fire flowing through them. Suddenly her eyes widened and she started smiling. I looked down to see what she was amazed by and I realised I had let the fire cover my arms. I concentrated like I did the night I played with my fire for the first time and made a ball of hot fire in my hands. I sent it flying at Marian and she screamed as the fire started burning her.
“I'm sorry! Quick get in the water!” I shouted as she ran as fast as her short legs could take her and dived into the water. Her screams died down and the fire went out, she stayed there for a couple of minutes just swimming in the water and calming down.
“Marian, I'm so sorry. I didn’t think about it and I just let it happen, I'm sorry…”I said as she walked past me and away from the beach. I followed silently behind her and I felt the sting of tears as she walked past Raph.
“Marian? What the hell happened? You’re covered in burns!” she didn’t say anything just carried on walking. Raph turned his head towards me and tears streamed down my face. What have I done? I could have killed her.
“Please just don’t say anything…” I said when he stopped me and wiped away my tears and the dried blood on my nose. I flinched but tried to hide it as he touched my nose. All he did was looked at me.
I walked through town with my face down, not wanting to see the questioning glares of people after they saw Marian. I am a monster and they never saw it.
I ran towards my room and tried to push past Nate as he got in my way. He pushed my battered face up with his finger and noticed the tears streaming down my face like a waterfall. I was pulled into his arms and I welcomed his comfort as I cried my eyes out.
“I'm a monster, Nate, I'm a monster…” I said in between sobs.
“You’re not, you’re powerful and special, that doesn’t make you a monster” he whispered.
“But nearly killing two people makes me one…” remembering what I did to Nate makes me want to curl up and die. He only walked me over to the sofa and sat me down while he gets an ice pack from the kitchen for my face. When he gets back he stares into my eyes and waits for me to say something while gently holding the ice pack to my bruised face.
“I hurt Marian, badly”
“How?”
“She wanted to fight with my powers, I let the fire take over and I burnt her”
He didn’t say anything more just pulled me towards him and held me until I fell asleep in his comforting arms, tired from crying.
Waking up on the sofa with a blanket over me made it feel like everything was fine and normal. It wasn’t. I groaned as pain took over my head when I sat up.
“Morning” said a familiar female voice from behind me.
“What are you doing here, Parisa?” I looked around to see if Nate was anywhere but he wasn’t.
“Looking after you. Nate went to the library to do some research and Angelus is busy so he asked if I would look after you. He said you got beaten a bit too hard by Marian yesterday so you weren’t doing too well” she explained while she gave me a cup of steaming hot coffee.
“He tell you anything else?” hoping she hadn’t heard about Marian already.
“No, but I know what happened. Its ok I won’t judge you, I know that you are powerful and it must be hard for you to control it sometimes”
“Yeah” I tried not to let the tears come again.
Before either of us could say anything else a tall man with brown hair and green eyes, a guard, walked in and stood by Parisa’s side.
“Lex, this is my husband Michael”
“Nice to meet you Lex” he said with a smile as he reached out his hand for me to shake.
“You too, so you’re a guard? How do you have time for the bakery?”
“Ex guard. I was badly injured in an attack long ago, couldn’t go back to normal guard duties so when I met Parisa we set up the bakery together”
“How come I didn’t see you when I went there?”
“Haha, you do like asking questions don’t you?” I shrugged, “I may not be able to carry on my duties as a guard but I still go there to help train new guards”
I nodded and told them they could get back to the bakery. I walked into the large, white bathroom and took my clothes off. I turned on the power shower and let the hot water run over my tense muscles. I spent around twenty minutes enjoying the peacefulness and normality of having a shower before I got out and dried off. Looking at the clock in my room, which said 11:00, I decided I should take training into my own hands and get fit by going for a jog.
I grabbed some shorts, a vest top and some trainers, supplied by the leaders who gave us this house, and put them on. I tied my wet hair in a high ponytail and grabbed a bottle of water before I walked out of the cosy house to begin my run.
