Shhh... stay hushed.

It's nights like this,
I think of bliss;
Where is it found?
Is it profound?

My clock reads 12:30,
My memory lane appears so dirty.
The cold wind bites my bare shoulder,
Am afraid my heart's altering into a boulder.

I told them the other day:
"Am depressed, how do I be gay?"
My face with embarrassment flushed,
They whispered, "Shhh...stay hushed".

Apparently, to be the society's ideal maiden,
One has to go around with smiles laden;
Whoever coined " life ain't a bed of roses",
Knew caring leads to becoming walking corpses.

What do they know about,
Burnt out ends of smoky days;
Why don't they hush about,
Living life in a manner of ways?

My teacher gave me lessons to swim,
I failed on "battling the drowning whim".
The ocean of depression came with a whip,
Unacceptance had left me a crip.

I was different; I used to dream,
Of sunshine and a sparkling stream.
Someone make me a dream catcher, please?
My health comes with lesser guarantees.

Tell me, how does being loved back feel?
How does nature so beautifully heal?
Pray, tell me about that monastery's chimes?
Will you write to me a poem that rhymes?

It reads 1:18 now, this is just another day.
"Am depressed, how do I be gay?"
I buried feelings as my heart finally crushed;
When they whispered, "Shhh...stay hushed".
