Jade and Arda decided to wait a few weeks before creating the reaper contract. The main reason for this is was to allow enough time for Gremdar and the rest to reach the Rendezvous point so meeting back up with them was as simple as teleporting. Arda would have days, at best, to live once she gave up the energy of Krystal.
The second reason however was Jade wanted a few more days with her mother. She knew the time for her mother's departure was inevitable but she felt like just a bit more time with the woman who she always admired would be the thing to help her face her own fate in the coming spring.
After their plans were made Jade approached Koral who was patiently waiting to talk to Jade.
"Draw your Sword" Koral said without hesitation.
Jade drew her sword and noticed a purple mark across the center on the sword. The horizontal mark seemed rather curious as she had never seen it before.
"I thought I felt something out of the ordinary" Koral said. "Your sword has been damaged."
"How" Jade asked.
"A very dark energy has corrupted the sword somehow- I urge your caution as this could cause the sword to break. Now it is time you learned the secret of us Guardians and the true nature of Hegasha.
"At the dawn of time and space there existed two powerful beings- one of pure golden energy and one of corrupted purple darkness. After her victory over the Being of Darkness, Celestia created the five guardians. This world where we exist is the very catalyst for the Universe's Salvation. The land of Hegasha exists on the center of that catalyst- the five elements in their purest state. The Wind of the North, The Fire of the South, The Water of the East, and the Earth of West each held a power over the center of of the catalyst- a way to unlock the true power within. When we guardians were sealed away we left behind the crystals- we told Arda it was to maintain balance in our absence- which is partly true- but the real reason was they were keys to keep the catalyst locked away. Xaug intends to unlock the catalyst and take the power for himself. It will give him comand over the elements, luckily he is incapable of yielding the true potential so that will be the extent of his transformation.
"The Catalyst cannot be restored once unlocked- this will push forward a shift in the cosmic energy that will ultimately doom this planet and force a battle between the forces of light and darkness for the sake of everything that exists. The Dark One will eventually be restored to what he once was and seek to destroy everything in his anger. You cannot stop what has been fated- larger forces are at work- but you are vital in pushing these events forward. Your coming battle will have impact long after you're gone- not all of it good- but it is important nonetheless. Nothing that exists will ever be one hundred percent good or evil. Hope can be found in the darkest of times and despair can exist even when all is right with the world. This is the most fundamental law that governs all that exists."
"I think I understand" Jade said. "The destination of events is irrelevant- how we get there is what is important?"
"Exactly" Koral said with a smile. "You must surrender yourself to the current of time and allow it to take you where you are needed in the great ocean of history."
"So the center of this Catalyst" Jade said thinking, "Is it Godarik's Spire?"
Koral smiled at Jade, pure hope radiating off of her. "You really are the Chosen One that we needed."
Koral's energy merged with the sword as Jade turned to her mother. They both knew what was coming- this was the calm before the storm- Soon everything will be changed forever.
