Birds chirped in the distance as the sun peaked through the curtains that were slightly open. The sounds of early morning traffic could faintly be heard. The world was starting to come alive around her, but she lay there in bed unwilling to get out. It was so warm making it extremely hard to leave.
Kaycee had been a busy bee the whole week and it all started to weigh down on her just a little. The weariness could be seen in the way she lay across the bed, diagonally taking up as much space as she could with her small body.
The covers engulfed her. Her hair was spread across the pillow, the beautiful chocolate colour brightening a little under the soft morning rays.
Sean had already awoken and taken a shower in preparation for the day. When he returned to their room, dressed in pants and a hoodie, he just couldn’t help but admire the beautiful girl that lay between the sheets.
He could clearly see that she'd had a long week and it showed. He didn't have the heart to wake her, so he quietly made his way into the bed, moving her a little to make himself some room. Her arm automatically moved away from her body searching for Sean. The action brought a smile to his face.
He then proceeded to pull her closer to him causing her to snuggle into his chest, a small sigh escaping from her lips.
He couldn’t believe he finally had her in his arms.
Although they had been friends for many years, she never really gave him the time of day. He didn’t really mind that much even if it did hurt him. He was willing to hold himself back to keep their friendship but most importantly, to keep her in his life.
Even though he tried to hold back, he just couldn’t help falling for her over and over again. He just couldn’t help it. Falling was inevitable when it came to her.
The way she giggled at certain things, how the sunlight caught her hair when they were outside, how she always asked him for help when she needed it (even if it annoyed her to an extent), how she always searched for him when they were in the same room, the way she looked up at him through her lashes when their foreheads touched, he could go on forever.
She had left an imprint on him that he would gladly hold for his whole lifetime and every other one after that.
All of a sudden, all the memories they made together flashed before him. This caused the smile on his face to grow immensely as he stared down at the girl and looked so comfortable in his arms. In that moment, he realized he could never go back to what they had before. He was content and very happy.
A small movement in his arms caused him to snap out of his daydream. This was then followed by the voice of the angel in his arm.
“Good Morning” she murmured, sleep evident in her voice, as she looked up at Sean.
Sean could have sworn his heart skipped a beat. “Morning beautiful” he replied softly kissing her forehead. This caused her to shut her eyes again, a content sigh escaping her lips as he lay back down on his chest.
They were quiet for some time just enjoying each other’s company. Sean couldn’t help but think of all the times he had dreamt of that exact moment: her in his arms. He was going to make sure she didn’t regret her decision. He was going to make her the happiest human being on the face of the Earth.
“So, what are our plans for today?” Sean asked looking down at Kaycee.
“Hmmm, can we just stay in bed?” Kaycee replied making herself all the more comfortable on his chest.
“We could but didn’t you say that Devon was having a barbeque today” he said smiling down at her.
“I said that?” she replied looking up at him.
“Yeah, like two days ago. It starts in about 2 hours” he said.
She moved so quick trying to get out of bed, he was afraid she would trip and fall. She rushed straight into their bathroom trying to get herself ready.
“Sean, why didn’t you wake me?” she whined from the bathroom as the sound of water drowned out her words. “Now we’re going to be late”
“You looked so peaceful, I knew you were tired, and I didn’t want to stress you out” he said from the bed.
“Okay, now I can’t be mad at you” she said walking out of the bathroom in her towel and walking straight into the closet.
“You know it only takes like an hour and a half to get there so if we leave now, we’ll be fine” Sean said as he checked his phone.
Kaycee then walked in wearing a white sundress and some sandals, her hair in curls around her, almost looking like a halo. “Sean, your shirt” she said looking at him.
“Hmmm?” he asked still looking at her.
“Aren’t you gonna change your shirt?”
“What shirt?” he asked still dragging his eyes along her figure.
“Here” she said throwing the button down shirt to his face. “Come on, let’s go” she said smiling at him.
“Can I have a kiss first?” he asked moving to sit on the edge of the bed.
“I’ll think about it” she said, grabbing her purse from the chair she had left it on walking straight past Sean.
He reached out and grabbed her by the waist pulling her onto him, so she was straddling him.
“You look absolutely stunning” he whispered against her lips, brushing a loose curl behind her ear.
“Thanks babe” she said pecking his lip. “I love you” she said looking into his eyes.
“I love you too” he replied, kissing her again.
“Okay, you've got your kiss. Change. Now.” she said getting off him.
Sean pulled off his hoodie hearing a sharp inhale from the beautiful brunette but proceeded to put on the button down moving even slower than before.
“Everything is ready downstairs” he said doing up the buttons. She then reached for his hand pulling him up, doing up the last few buttons.
“Okay, let’s go” she said, pulling him towards the door.
He looked at her then, with her wild curls, her white sundress swinging around her knees from her movement and her bright smile and thought, I’m one lucky bugger.
