Helloooo! 3rd installment, thanks to the 10 people who decided to read it;3. Once again, Sirius is narrating. Apologies if I slip between tenses x_x.
"Sirius." Remus grabbed my shoulders with a hold so firm I was afraid he'd break them. I winced in pain but he didn't loosen his grip.
"Sirius, look at me" his voice was calm, but the sense of urgency still remained. I moved my gaze to meet his.
"Tell me everything that went on last night." Tears were forming in his eyes, and his hand slid down to grip mine. It was clammy now, not ice cold.
I sighed before brushing back his hair from his eyes.
"All right, old friend. But, please don't interrupt. Mass murderers don't appreciate such a thing."
A shadow of a smile emerged on his face before his expression slipped back into neutral.
"Last night we fought. You said you had notes to attend to and you went up to your study. Our Moon Howler came flying in informing us that it was a full one, and so I assumed that you would have gone up to transform there.
"I sat and read the Prophet in the living room with Buckbeak at my feet for a while until the sun began to set. That's when Buckbeak nipped me on the toe and I took him out to have his evening hunt. It was a fine evening so I took it upon myself to Apparate onto the roof to watch the sunset. I was so at peace that I fell asleep there until the moonlight woke me.
"I took a moment to admire it before Apparating inside; it was getting cold. And I resumed my position in the chair by the fire, waiting for Buckbeak to return, before I heard a clawing sound."
I paused to try and read his expression, but his head was in his hands, and he was shaking uncontrollably. I shuffled closer to him, my arm around his hunched shoulders, before I continued with my account.
"I thought, at first, that your werewolf self was getting bored in there - but then I realised that you would be in your right mind if you had taken the potion, so I began to get curious as to why you were damaging those pine doors you admire so much.
"I was calm after my sleep, and so was no longer bitter over our earlier disagreement. I went up to your door and was calling your name to check that you were OK when..."
"I burst down the door." Remus said quietly, his tone dejected. His head was still buried in his hands, but despite this I still nodded to verify the truth of the statement.
"I was so panicked. Buckbeak was gone, thank goodness, otherwise we'd have been in real trouble. I was busy with trying to protect you and the house rather than me. I knew there were those Muggles the Stevensons down the road, so I locked all of the emergency locks and attempted to put forcefields round the place discreetly.
"You rammed your head against the door several times - to no avail, luckily. But then you spotted me muttering incantations and, well, naturally you made a beeline for me. Stupidly, I had made it so I was trapped inside the forcefield with you. I had nowhere to run, and in the moment everything was such a blur.
"I felt a searing pain in my leg and the sound of my trouser leg ripping. I limped a few steps before I finally had the sense to transform, and only then did you calm down.
"I sat with you for a while, licking my wound. But I knew it was too late.
"I walked with you up to your bed until you slept, re-transformed and went downstairs and drained the potion down the sink so you wouldn't worry. Then I came here, tried to make sense of what had just happened, failed to do that or sleep, so I saw the new day in and waited for your inevitable entrance. And..."
"Here we are" Remus whispered.
He brought his head up, tear tracks staining his perfect face. I could tell he'd never recover from the guilt. I couldn't comfort him, just sit there, sharing his pain. I held his hand for a while in the silence of the night until he let go and fumbled for his wand in his robe pocket.
Once he'd located it, he moved it to my wound and whispered, "Tergeo".
We both knew it was no use, that the damage was done. But the thought was there, at least. I watched as the pus and dried blood cleared, as if being swept away. All that remained of the wound were the red teeth marks that would always stay.
Idiots in the past have tried using Vulnera Sanentur to attempt to heal Werewolf bites, yet it has since been discovered that Wolfsbane potion is the only thing that will aid transformation. There is no cure for them entirely.
I barely noticed when he muttered "Agumenti" and water ran over the bite.
After several other pointless spells, I brushed his hand away. A jet of water sprayed him in the face; he must have used Aqua Eructo.
"Sorry" I murmured.
"Don't worry" he stammered, bringing the collar of his robe up to his face to wipe off the liquid.
"It's no use, Remus. I'll send an owl to St Mungo's, anonymously of course, asking them for a prescription to the Wolfsbane. There isn't enough for the both of us."
He stood up and brushed himself down. I began to rise, too, expecting pain and a dead weight on my left leg, but whatever he did, he eliminated all pain. It was like walking normally again. I grabbed his waist and he held me for a while. I noticed him looking at something intently, so I followed his gaze. The almost full-moon lingered almost gloatingly above our heads.
His eyes began to water again, but before he could muster the strength to apologize, I put a finger to his lips.
"Show it that it can't control us". I grinned.
He smiled faintly in return.
"What's life without a little risk?" He laughed, before I pulled him to the ground and began kissing him under the moonlight.
The love was so strong, the desperation, sorrow and apology deep and pure. We didn't need words. I wrapped my arms around his neck at rolled down the hill descending from the tree and pulled him in close. I didn't want to ever let him go. The birds and animals watched as we stopped at the bottom of the hill.
Next chapter might get a little 'heated', so to speak, so be warned!
