This, is a work in progress....

Imagine that the mind is a heavily matrixed structure carved from a solid block of chalk such that you could pour water over it and it would go right through it like a filter. Now imagine that those millions of fine connections are brittle and easily broken, unless they are handled gently, slowly, at which point they become more like a stiff kind of sticky Silly Putty, adhering to intention, situation and events..

Whenever this Chalk Mind becomes damaged, as with say the death of a loved one, something that feels as if the source of pain is external and cannot be dealt with internally, it will affect the structure of that Chalk Mind.

To observe this, should you throw a golf ball into the chalk mind matrix, caving it in, it would hold the form of the ball, surrounding it until it is removed, and maintaining its shape after removal. The structure of this mind is then in need of a rebuild. It cannot be fully functional again until it has been appropriately restructured.

Now imagine if you were to stick your finger into this Chalk Mind. The same sort of thing would happen. When you extracted your finger, as when you removed the golf ball, you would see a negative impression of the shape of the finger.

However, if you were to push your finger in just right and just slowly enough, consider that it will enter cleanly, doing little or no harm. Unless you were to remove your finger too quickly and break them, as you removed your finger these tendrils, the structures of the Chalk Mind, would stick to your finger, releasing only when stretched beyond their tensile strength, beyond the surface tension of their connections, and then they would remain intact and just as before.

When this mind is entered and egressed in this slower and more appropriate fashion, the Chalk Mind notices the intrusion far less, or possibly even not at all. The connections to the "golf ball" or the "finger" during the point of egress will remain connected to various parts of the mind, some deeper than others, until separation is triggered, either benignly or aggressively, smoothly or with damage.

Entering this matrixed structure too fast will result in an effect similar to a tiny bomb having gone off in a small section of it. If we then try to rebuild it ourselves, and we don't have the proper training or a natural ability with that type of thing, we will tend to build in the most simple and solid fashion possible. That being as an example, a solid pole up the center of the damage to support it.

Although this can be more or less functional, it may not overall be very sound and will at some point, give way.

Should we rebuild the structure as most of us would, the structure can easily end up weakly built and will be easily broken under duress. Once built, structures need to be put under Eustress first, then duress to test its strength in the real world and only then, be considered as competent to withstand reality and daily life.

Normally, we will go along testing that things are okay for a while and typically, they may very well be. For a time. However, if it is too solidly built incorrectly, it can affect other areas in one's mind and therefore, life will perhaps appear from the outside and to others, as a numbness or a callousness in some situations. Possibly, in many situations.

When instead you get appropriate and correct help to rebuild the damaged structures, though you cannot ever rebuild the structure exactly as before, you can over time, restructure the area so that it becomes as functional as it possibly can become. You will need to rebuild carefully however, so the damaged areas will mesh well with the undamaged areas.

Also and most importantly, so that it will continue rebuilding properly on its own once the rebuild is completed.

Much of what we do to fix ourselves is to set our minds up to continue healing and rebuilding, even when we are no longer working on it. If this is done incorrectly, then it can continue rebuilding improperly and you can end up even worse than you were to begin with.

Now that all that is out of the way, what are the practical applications, its function in practice?
