It was a regular afternoon at Camp Jupiter. Demigods were training, fauns were running around asking for drachmas, and Reyna was in her office with Frank, doing paperwork and helping campers with their problems.
After many hours of hard work, it was finally time for the war games. The Fifth and Fourth Cohorts would be Defending, while the First, Second, and Third would be attacking. After quickly reviewing the rules, the campers put on their armor, choose their weapons, and headed to the battlefield.
~TIME LAPSE~
The Fourth and Fifth Cohorts had successfully defend the base and won. After the feast when Reyna went to sleep, she found she couldn't. All day, her mind had been thinking about what Venus or Aphrodite, whichever you prefer, had said all those years ago: You will never find love where you wish or hope. No demigod will ever heal your heart. She always envied those who did find love, like Hazel and Frank, though she would never say so aloud. She was a praetor for gods sake! She had to put other's needs before hers. But she still stared at couples in New Rome and thought to herself, Why can't I be like that?
She almost never complained about anything, but the other day, she just couldn't help it. She had pulled Frank aside to confess all the thoughts that had been going through her mind, bothering her day and night. He'd nodded and simply said, "That's how I felt the first time I saw Hazel, except the you can never love part. I've never actually heard of Venus do anything like that. But maybe find someone who's been through something similar." She thought for a moment. Who had been prevented to love, or been rejected from love. No one from Camp Jupiter, but perhaps...
That's when it hit her. There was only one person she knew who felt close to how she felt, but at the same time she thought of him, she could feel her face heat up and her heart beat faster. No. She thought. I couldn't. But at the same time, she knew she could.
This all went thought her head while she was trying to fall asleep. Tomorrow, she was supposed to leave for Camp Half-Blood. She kept replaying the scene, again and again in her mind. She knew that he didn't like her but she just couldn't get his face out of her head. She pushed the thought out of her head, not wanting to think about it as she closed her eyes and slowly drifted to sleep.
Like all demigods, Reyna almost always had dreams. Not normal dreams, but visions. This time, she was at Camp Half-Blood in the Oracle's cave. Her name was Rachel. She watched as she and Chiron, the director of camp, were in a deep conversation. Something about pranks and Hermes. Not surprising. Suddenly her eyes started glowing, and the spirit of Delphi spoke:
The son of Death and the daughter or Rome,
To together, defeat, and bring Fate home.
A curse to be told and broken,
To a soldiers name unspoken.
Another shall be rejoined,
With a love stuck like two joints.
And to scale the wall of friendships lost,
To pay a price worth a heart's cost. She then collapsed and Chiron grabbed her. He brought her back to the Big House where he stood there, fear and confusion in his eyes.
~TIME LAPSE~
When she finally got to Camp Half-Blood, she saw Chiron waiting on Half-Blood Hill, trotting around nervously. When he saw me, his face lit up. "Reyna! Your here! Come, we have much to discuss." So I followed him to the Big House where the head counsellors of each cabin was waiting. "Is this about the prophecy?" I asked him. He looked surprised and I realized he didn't tell me about it yet, so I told him about my dream and he nodded. "Yes, I'm afraid so."
I took a seat beside Chiron and looked around the room, hoping to see him. Sure enough, he was there. And the moment I saw him hiding I'm the shadows, my thought was confirmed. I had a crush on Nico di Angelo.
