Chapter One: A Young Woman's Dream

Sammel lives in an island called "Libra Island" where life is very simple but most of the people are poor. At the age of 18 she is a first year high school student. She is still lucky that in this island, a school still exists with the help of the one of the richest people in the island, the "Sapphire Family" who owns the "Sapphire Paradise" a very beautiful beach resort in an exclusive Villa of the island where there is electricity and water.

Sammel is an intelligent girl, unlike those other girls who supposed to be studying but left school to get married to some guy. The Villa Sapphire where the Sapphire Paradise is located is not a place far from civilization. When you are one of those who are poor in the island, your greatest dream is to be there to experience electricity and the thing they call internet connection and of course better schools and colleges. There are still those who are lucky to have a shot of scholarship for college in the school where Sammel lives but only few were able to take the chance because before graduating highschool, the girls got impregnated and the boys were thinking it's better to help in fishing like their fathers.

Sammel is reading her notes when her friend, Aicka came with notebooks in her hand.
"Look, Sammel, this is for you," said Aicka who entered the open door before Sammel tells her to come in.
"Where did you get this?" Sammel asked.
"Father, brought this home he got all of those for me but I only took one and the rest is for you," said Aicka.
"But why?"Asked Sammel.
"You are the one who loves to study and have a dream to go to college so, I guess you need that more than I do," said Aicka.
"Aicka, don't you want to go to college?" Asked Sammel.
"No, I just want to marry a rich man someday,this is all I need," Aicka took something out of her pocket.Its a pair of pretty shinning golden earrings and a golden necklace with a pretty heart pendant.
"Those are pretty," said Sammel.
"If father were to bring me more like this when he got back from the sea, I'll make you have some too," Aicka said with excitement.
"You don't have to, Aicka," Sammel smiled.
Aicka's father is a pirate and it's a big secret, only their family and Sammel knows about this.
"How about you try to finish college and have a job then you can buy your own jewelries," said Sammel.
"Studying is hard, I'm not as smart as you, I don't want to be stressed out it will destroy my pretty face," Aicka said.
"Thanks for this, it means a lot," said Sammel and gave her friend a hug.
"By the way, since father came with a lot from his three weeks journey, mother said we are going to the mainland to buy a new school uniform for me," said Aicka.
"That's great," said Sammel.
"My mother said that I should give you my old uniform set," said Aicka.
"Old? You call that old? That uniform was just bought last month," said Sammel.
"See? Even better, right? You can get rid of the old uniform you were wearing since the opening of class," said Aicka.
Sammel smiled. "Just don't get married soon, wait for me to graduate and when I got a job, let's live in the mainland," said Sammel.
"If I get a rich man, I'll tell him to let you come with us and live with us too so you can live in the mainland and finish college," said Aicka. They just both laugh about it.
"By the way, would you like to come with us in the mainland?"Asked Aicka.
"How could I?I don't have the money for the fare, I can't walk for two whole hours just to get there, neither would you," Sammel shook her head.
"Who said anything about walking? We are going to ride the jeepney on our way there, my mother will pay for it," said Aicka.
"Forget it, I don't want your mother to think that I am taking advantage of her kindness," said Sammel.
"Of course she will not think like that, she loves you because you're the only real friend I have and that's what matters most to her," Aicka tries to convince her.
Aicka got a lot compared to those other girls in their sitio. Their place "Sitio Bagong Nayon" is full of fake friends for Aicka, they just try to persuade being Aicka's friend to take advantage of the things she could offer like make ups, accessories and clothes without knowing where Aicka got everything.

"Aicka, let me try to earn some money for the fare," said Sammel.
" Oh, how will you do it?" Asked Aicka.
"I will ask Luinz if he wants me to help him with his assignments,he will pay me if I help," said Sammel.
"Why not make him your boyfriend? He is one of the finest man in our place," said Aicka.
"Luinz is just a friend," said Sammel.
"Her mother is very pretty, my father said that his mother is one of the former pirates' captain's mistress that's why they need to hide here or else the real wife will find them," said Aicka.
"You think so?" Asked Sammel.
"Of course it's true, where do you think they get their generator? They are the only family who has one, they have a maid and the only business they have is selling purified water which only few of the people here bothers to buy," Aicka replied."Just use him to be able to get free clean water to drink and take a bath," Aicka continued.
"You can have him instead," Sammel teased her.
"I'm already a pirate's daughter, I don't want a pirate son's boyfriend," said Aicka.
"Just wait for me at your house," said Sammel.
"Okay then, if you insist," said Aicka.
