Jayden sighed as he entered the library. He showed the librarian his detention slip, then looked around for a place to sit. He dread the idea of staying at school, longer than deemed necessary.
He saw a grumpy girl, with tiny braids pulled back into a ponytail, sitting alone in the back. He sat next to her as she was sitting in his usual seat.
"S'up enemy?" he asked.
She eyed him then went back to burning a hole into the desk. He half expected her to insult him or make a smart comment.
"Damn, what's with the side eye?"
She rolled her eyes and stayed silent.
"You okay?"
"Can you fuck off?!" Tori snapped, but not too loudly "It ain't like we friends to begin with so keep yo' fake ass concern to yo' self!"
"Fine, but I just wanted to let you know that you're in my seat." he replied.
"Wow," she sarcastically waved her hands "his royal fuckin highness has an assigned seat in detention."
"No talking!" the librarian snapped from the front of the room.
Jayden puffed out air and grabbed his phone. He sent his sister a text to let her know he'll be coming home late. He looked over at Tori to find that she was oddly still and quiet. He wanted to know what was up but knew she wouldn't talk.
She looked calm but in reality she was freaked out, anxious, panicking. Her mom was sure to beat her ass, literally, when she got home. She already felt the horrible sleep she'll have from her sore body, and the headache from all the yelling. She didn't want to go home but she had no other choice. She knew she wouldn't be allowed to have a meal either.
She huffed and sunk deeper into her seat. She followed the designs of the wood on the desk with her eyes, trying not to think about her living hell, waiting for her at home.
"So what you in for?" Jayden finally asked, trying to break the ice.
"Do you want me to punch you?" Tori asked in a threatening tone.
"I know we're enemies but there's no one else I can talk to. Look around us, this room is filled with crackheads and goody-two-shoes."
She looked up from the desk and found out he was right. The others in detention most likely were there for doing something stupid or being late to class.
"So what landed you a VIP ticket to this marvellous land?"
She sighed and rolled her eyes. "Who's your tall ripped friend? The one with brown hair and blue eyes?"
"Ethan."
"Okay so..."
Tori was talking to Zack at his locker. They didn't care that everyone thought they were a couple because they knew it wasn't true. A ten-dollar bill fell out of his wallet. She was about to pick it up but he quickly stomped on it, nearly missing her fingers.
"That's how it is huh?" she said getting back up.
"Yeah, cause I don't trust you." he replied, putting it away.
"But purple is my favourite colour." she pouted.
"Mhmm bitch."
They both laughed as Zack got his stuff for his next class. Tori felt a big hand squeeze her behind. Ethan showed up, dapped his friend then winked at her.
"Yo Zack, I was wondering if you had—"
He was interrupted by a punch in the face. Tori then yanked his hair to bring him forwards and kneed him hard in the balls. He held in a breath because of the pain then groaned when she shoved him hard onto a locker.
He was way taller and muscular than her, thus was stronger. Ethan grabbed Tori's arms and pinned her to the ground. He pressed his heavy body on top of her, trapping her.
"That wasn't such a good idea now was it?" he asked with clenched teeth.
"Man let her go." Zack asked and was about to pull his friend back.
Tori growled and sent him a hard head butt. He groaned and got momentarily distracted by the pain. She pushed him off and crawled away to slightly massage her forehead. She then ran back up to him and threw punches all over the place.
"Tori stop! You'll get in trouble!" Zack warned, trying to pry her off but she pushed him away.
"That's-what-you-get-for-grab-bing-my-ass-you-dumb-ass-per-vert!" she snapped in between punches.
Ethan blocked as much as he could but she managed to get him in the face and in the stomach. Zack picked Tori up form behind and hauled her away. It was too late as a teacher has already seen her.
"You!"
"Damn." was all Jayden could say.
"Yeah. Well what about you?"
"Didn't do my homework, came late to class and was "disturbing" the teacher during class."
"Wow." Tori laughed "You really do deserve yourself a throne."
"No talking!" the librarian snapped, smacking pieces of paper in front of Jayden "You, go sit over there."
Jayden did as he was told and sat a few benches away. She glared at them both, gave some to tori then walked off. She asked everyone to copy sentences two hundred times. From "I won't be late to class again" to "I won't disrespect the teacher anymore" depending on their crimes.
Jay doodled on his paper instead. He made an exaggerated sketch, drew an arrow and labeled it "librarian". He threw his eraser at Tori to get her attention. She glared at him, ready to whip it at him but saw the drawing he held up. She clapped her hand onto her mouth to stop her laugh from coming out. An idea popped into her head so she doodled too. She drew a doll with the thinnest waist possible, huge lips and a wig. She wrote China all over her limbs and labeled it "Cassandra". She raised it so Jay could see and he let out a chuckle.
A few minutes have passed since detention started. The librarian who was seated in the front was working on her computer. Her phone rang so she answered. Her eyes widened at what she heard and she simply rushed out without addressing the students. Nobody cared and just took that opportunity to chill. Tori went to sit next Jay, almost getting hit by a paper airplane.
"That librarian you drew looked just like The Thing from the Fantastic Four." she laughed.
"Oh I love that movie." Jay exclaimed "As a kid I always wanted Johnny's powers."
"Fire is lame, I wanted Sue's invisibility."
"Take that back! Not only he could start a fire but he could fly too!"
They started discussing more about movies they loved and realized they had similar taste: action, sci-fi, humour.
