"What did you say?""Who. Is. Iris." I repeated.
Kane stared at me in what looked like shock. So he knew the name. I didn't know how I felt about it. I couldn't think about that right now. Right now I needed answers from him. He was hiding things from me and I was going to get to the bottom of it.
"Where did you hear that name?"
"I've been having these...visions. They feel like memories." I explained.
"Tell me about them. What did you see?" He demanded.
"I'm not telling you anything until you start doing some explaining yourself."
Kane only met my eyes briefly before he started pacing back and forth. He was deep in thought and I didn't know what to do. He looked really troubled by what I just revealed. In all honesty it was freaking me out too.
"Kane, is Iris the one who trapped you?" I asked.
"There was a coman he loved and that eventually became his downfall."
Cole's words echoed in my mind. In the visions I could feel that pull to Kane. She loved him. Iris was the one who had enslaved him to the spirit world. I couldn't forget the other stories about him. Everyone talked about how Kane was a dangerous man. He killed people to try and build his magic.
"She was the one that did this to you, isn't she? You became dangerous and she had to stop you." I stepped away from Kane.
"Iris is the one who did this. She is not to be trusted. She must have set these spells before enslaving me so no one would want to help me."
"Why would she do that?"
"She must have known that one day someone would try. When I became immortal, my soul had to be bound to another. Things didn't go as planned, but..." Kane trailed off. "If she was bound to me odds are when you bring me back she will come back as well."
"So if I help you then not only will I be bringing you back but I'll be bringing her back too." I said. "Great. Now I'll have two immortals on my hands."
"We will find a way to kill her."
"Kill her? I've never-no. How the heck am I supposed to kill an immortal?"
"We will figure it out."
I sighed and it was my turn to pace. I couldn't do this. I couldn't bring back two immortals. Either Kane was lying to me or Iris's visions were wrong. Maybe they were all right when they said Kane was an evil warlock. There was no way I could bring him back into this world and risk him going power hungry like he did before.
"I loved her." Kane said.
I turned to look at him and it looked like it pained him just to say the words. He had to know that Iris loved him too. I felt it.
"She came to me and she was one of the most beautiful women I had ever seen. Both her and her sister were stunning, but Iris...She was smart. It didn't take long for Iris to show her interest in me and I fell for her charm. I loved her and to her I was just an obsession. She did things I couldn't even- it was bad, Blaire." Kane said. "Truthfully, it was Iris who came up with the idea of becoming immortals. She didn't want even death to separate us. She started to practice very dangerous magic."
"Why didn't you try to stop her?" I asked.
"When I realized what was happening it was too late. Those were difficult times and Whisper Falls was becoming just as bad as Salem. There were witches and warlocks dying. Iris was scared for her mother and for her sister and that made her reckless."
