It was clear. What the young, determined boy had been longing for had ceased to exist. Where he stood was now just a memory, what used to be was now forgotten, except by the child. He too, was left to be forgotten once mother nature had turned her roots black and left the living with no life, no sun. The boy, last of his kind, had searched hopelessly.
As Arlo stood in front of the odd and unnerving trees, where his sweet home once used to stand, he realized he was truly alone. The Great Dane, Otis, who stood beside him, was only a mere figment of his fogged mind that gave him hope, hope that there was still life in this world that had been consumed in nothing but darkness. Arlo's mind had instantly been awakened by the dreadful truth... he had no one and would forever be lost in what seems like another dimension. Once Arlo could comprehend all of his fast moving thoughts, he admired the eerie quietness, as this had been the first time his mind had not been lost in the past, in that moment he could truly see his new world. No hope could blind the forgotten child.
He continued to walk alone, slowly in the cold fog, past the chilling shapes that he knew were just trees but looked like something more. While he wandered further he thought no more of Otis or the world he once belonged to. He walked without concern of where his sore feet would take his limp body. This is his existence now... he too would walk into oblivion.
