I woke up to the shrill sound of my alarm clock.  I groaned and sat up, shutting it off.   It was Monday, which meant I had school.  Wonderful.  I rolled out of bed and walked down the hallway into the bathroom.  I undressed and stepped into the shower.  I let the warm water run over me, making me tired all over again.  After 15 minutes of heaven I turned off the water.  I stepped out of the shower and dried off my body and hair.  I walked back to my room and glanced at the clock.  It was almost 7:00, so I had a little over 30 minutes until my best friend Chloe would be here to pick me up from school.  I looked at my closet, picking out my outfit which was a pair of jeans and an undershirt with a striped sweater over it.  It was freezing outside, so I grabbed a blue hoodie.  I walked over to my mirror and but my long, light brown hair into a messy bun.  I applied minimal make up, just enough to make my blue eyes pop,  and slid on my blue coverse, making my way down the stairs to the kitchen where my mom was putting some scrambled eggs on a plate.

"Morning Tynlee," she said to me as I sat down at the table.

"Morning mom," I replied with a smile.

She set the plate of eggs in front of me and asked, "Orange juice?"

"Sure," I replied.

I watched as she got the orange juice from the fridge and grabbed my medicine from the cabinet.  As she was pouring the orange juice in a glass, I started blinking rapidly and a tingling sensation went through my body. I knew this was the beginning of one of my attacks and within a second my body went limp, leaving me unconscious.  About a minute later I was sitting upright again to see my mom standing beside me with a concerned expression on her face.

"Are you alright honey?" she asked me worriedly.

"Yeah, I'm fine," I replied.

"OK then, well here is you medicine," she said handing me my pills and a glass of orange juice.

"Thanks," I mumbled, dreading swallowing the large pills.

I have epilepsy, which is a condition that causes me to have frequent seizures.  My mom was used to me having attacks, so it wasn't that big of a deal.  Everybody that has it has different kinds of seziures. Mine just happens to be atonic seziures, meaning that whenever I have them my body goes limp and I loose conciousness.  I take medicine for it but it doesn't really help.  I basically have to have somebody with me almost all the time to make sure I don't injure myself.  It doesn't really matter though becase most of the time they aren't quick enough to catch me.  My mom tried to convince me to wear a helmet, but I refuse because I want to look as normal as possible.  I can't drive, so that is why Chloe picks me up from school every day.  She is the only other person that I trust besides my mom and other family.  My dad passed away before I was born, so at home it's just me and my mom.

I looked at the clock on the oven.  It read 7:26, so Chloe should be hear any minute.  Just then I heard a horn blow from outside, signaling she was here.  I stood up walking towards the door. I grabbed my bag on the way there and yelled a goodbye to my mom.  She told me to be careful, as always, and I promised I would.  I opened the door and walked outside into the cold air.  Chloe's old black car was sitting in the driveway, and I opened the door and slid into the passenger seat.

"Hey Tyn," she said, using her nickname for me.

"Hey Chlo," I replied, looking at her. Chloe was very pretty, having blond hair and bright green eyes.  She was very popular, and she played basketball and softball.  She was also my only friend, as everyone else thought of me as a freak because of my condition. I wouldn't even have her if she wasn't so determined to be friends with me in the first place.  She started the car and began the 20 minute journey to our school.

"Have you had an attack today?" Chloe asked me.

"Yeah, this morning at the breakfast table," I replied quietly, feeling like a freak.

She must've saw that I was upset because she said, "Tynlee, it's OK. You have nothing to be ashamed of. You are beautiful and it's something you can't control. I am your best friend and I will be with you all day, since our classes are the same.  You have nothing to worry about."

I instantly felt better hearing those words. I was so lucky to have Chloe as my best friend because she accepted me for who I was.  She would be with me through everything, and i was grateful for that.

"Thanks Chlo, you're the best," I said , smiling up at her.

"I know," she replied jokingly.

By now we were pulling up to the school. Chloe parked the car and we both got out.  I walked up to the doors with her, knowing that as long as she was with me, I could face the day.
