The Meeting

I had no job.

The ambulance soon arrived. The siren wailed as if giving voice to my inner feelings. I stood numb as the manager and his wife climbed in and drove off to the hospital. I watched the ambulance disappear in the distance, but the feelings inside my heart kept on increasing with each passing moment.

I walked off the road like a zombie, the only difference being that I was lost in thoughts and a zombie usually never thought.

I walked until my feet started to hurt. I was tired. Luckily, I found a bench nearby and decided to sit down. The world around was as usual. Lively. But I wasn't a least bit cheerful. Although I wanted to be, but losing my job meant no tuition fee and so no college. I wouldn't starve since I had other part time jobs I could use to pay for my rent and food.

I had thought big about my future because my life had been small. Something of no importance to anyone. I wanted to be important. I wanted to be cared for and respected. The day had made me realise how far I was from that dream. Tears pricked my eyes and threatened to come out as I struggled to keep my guard. It was exhausting. The day felt exhausting to me. Thankfully the weather was in my favour and so I kept on staring at the ground.

I woke up to the feeling of lying on the floor.

Am I at home? Was I watching a dream... were my first thoughts. Soon I became familiar with the surroundings. They were the same. I had fallen asleep on the bench.

But, I wasn't lying on the bench before I had fallen asleep.

Screw it. Does it even matter?

I decided to go home. My home was beautiful to me since it was what I had wanted. It provided me security and everything I basically could need. Since my room was large enough, I didn't feel the need to have a living room anyways. I had a kitchen, which I was thankful for since I couldn't afford one in the budget I had decided for rent.

I checked my phone on the way. There were a couple of missed calls from Anna. I shoved it back into my pocket.

So my kitchen lay on right, my bathroom on the left of the main door and there was a little passage which led straight to my room. My sweet sweet room.

Once I reached home, I grabbed a cup, and shuffled through the cupboards to look for coffee powder. What I found was an empty container.

Perfect.

I decided to take a shower instead. One by one, I peeled off the clothes from my skin as they carelessly fell around my body on the ground. I didn't care to pick and keep them at a more suitable place and stepped right into the shower. I turned on the knob and as soon as I did so, the cold droplets hit harsh on my back. I had assumed it would be warm by now.

In a haste, I turned around and the water aimed my left elbow, causing me to flinch in pain.

It hurt really bad. I immediately backed away from the shower and took a look at my elbow. A large bruise with all shades of colours covered my skin. I was wondering, why didn't I feel any pain for so long? Having no job was a problem, but having no hands to work sounded more threatening to me. I was used to caring for myself since no one had. So I immediately stepped out of the shower, put on clothes and headed to a doctor.

Thank Lord that I didn't fracture it. It was a bruise but it still needed to be taken care of. The doctor told me to be cautious of getting hurt again or else it could turn bad. I nodded and took the prescription along to a pharmacy. I got my painkillers and came home. I had forgotten to take my phone along. When I reached home, I saw a few more missed calls from Anna. I decided to call her back. And as I did she blasted my ear through the phone.
