"Hi mam?" Cheryl said down the phone.

There was a short silence on the other end before Joan eventually replied.

"Hi love." She said.

Cheryl pondered on the thought of whether to tell her mum that she was engaged to Katy again.

"Happy Christmas! Has our Garry brought the kids over yet?" She asked.

"No. They're coming for tea." Joan replied, bluntly.

Cheryl frowned.

"What's wrong?" She asked, quietly.

"Oh, nothing, just not been sleeping properly." Joan said.

"Are you sure?" Cheryl asked, concerned.

"Yes, love. Don't worry about me." Joan said.

"I've got something to tell you..." Cheryl began.

"Go on..." Joan provoked.

"Me and Katy. We're still engaged, the wedding is New Year's Day." Cheryl announced.

Joan gasped.

"Oh, that's - wonderful." She said, unenthusiastically.

Katy walked in, dressed.

"Mam, I've got to go. Have a lovely rest of the day. Ta-ra." Cheryl said, quickly, making kiss sounds.

She put the phone down as she felt Katy's arms enclose around her stomach.

She smiled.

"Shannon called. She asked if we wanted to go over for lunch?" Katy asked.

Cheryl turned around.

"Sure, why not?" She said.

Katy brushed her hand against Cheryl's cheek.

"I love you." She whispered.

Cheryl blushed.

"I love you too." She said, smiling.

At around 11am, they were ready to leave for Shannon's house.

"Have you got her gift?" Cheryl asked.

Katy's eyes widened.

"One sec!" She said before running up the stairs.

Cheryl sat on the sofa looking around, she looked towards the coffee table in the middle of the room.

It was filled with letters all clumped together, but one particularly stood out to Cheryl, it was in a handwritten envelope.

She picked it up but heard Katy coming downstairs again, so she stuffed it in her jean pocket.

"Okay, ready?" Katy asked.

Cheryl smiled.

"Yep." She said, standing up and pulling up her jeans.

*At Shannon's house.*

"Katyyyyy! Cherylllll!" Shannon exclaimed, excitedly hugging them both.

"Are you okay Shan?" Katy asked, laughing.

"I'm fine! Come in!" She roils, letting Katy and Cheryl pass past her and into the living area.

"Shannon, can I use your loo please? Car journeys are a killer for me bladder." Cheryl asked.

Shannon giggled.

"Sure, upstairs and to the left." She instructed.

Cheryl smiled before walking upstairs and to the toilet.

She sat down and pulled out the letter from her pocket.

She ripped the envelope and pulled out a piece of paper, with a short paragraph of handwritten writing on it.

She frowned as she tried the make out the words as the handwriting was very curly, she recognised it, but she wasn't sure why.

She scanned through it, trying to make sense of the parts she could read.

It read:

"I'm sure she'll understand, it's nothing too much to worry about. Your appointment is booked for 3:00pm, Thursday the 28th of December. We advise you get a second opinion before confirming your choice, however, it's not primare.

I'll see you then,
Linda."

Cheryl shook her head slowly, she didn't understand.

She thought she heard footsteps outside the bathroom so she stuffed the letter back in her jean pocket, with the ripped envelope in the other.

She pretended to flush the chain and wash her hands before leaving the bathroom and returning downstairs to find Shannon and Katy laughing together.

"What have I missed?" Cheryl asked, falsely smiling.

Katy caught her breath.

"Nothing babe, come and sit down." She said, scooting over and patting the space beside her on the sofa.

Cheryl walked over and sat down stiffly.

"I'll go check on the turkey!" Shannon said, standing up and leaving the room.

Cheryl dug in her pocket for the letter and got it out, placing it on Katy's leg.

"Do care to explain?" She provoked.
