(Lincoln's POV)
"Is it to late to run?"
"Afraid so Sir."
"Positive?"
"We did have to have the gate opened for us, so they already know we're here."
"Want to go in my place?"
"Not a chance Sir, but I will wait right here in the car for you."
"Thanks."
I prepared myself before I got out of the car by taking a drink from the flask hidden in my jacket. I didn't bother knocking as I got to the door, I just opened it and walked in.
"Welcome home Mr. Rockwell." Harvey, the butler said. He's been working for my family since I was little.
"Thanks Harvey. They in the dining room?"
"Yes."
"Has everyone arrived?"
He gave me a painful grin and nodded.
"Great." I muttered.
"Believe me, Sir. My thoughts are with you."
I walked in the dining room and had everyone's eyes on me.
"Well look who made it!" My brother, Nathan, exclaimed.
Those in attendance were Nathan, his wife, my Sister Julie, my Brother Landen, my mother, and our stepfather.
"Didn't have much of a choice." I said, sitting down at the table by my mother.
"You're right on time. Our guests should arrive any minute now." She said.
"Guests? Who are the guests?" I asked.
"The Cabots." She said and I internally groaned.
The Cabots are one of the wealthiest families in the United States. They almost have more than we do. Almost.
Sure enough, within a few minutes they walked in. It was Mr. and Mrs. Cabot along with their two daughters, Priscilla and Claire. It didn't take me long to figure out why they were invited and why my mother insisted I come.
I automatically wanted to leave.
While they were all focused on welcoming our guests, I pulled out my phone to send a quick text.
Me:
Call me in about ten minutes and fake an emergency. Understand?Tony:
That bad in there huh?Me:
It's about to be.I slipped my phone back into my pocket as our guests sat down.
Ironically, Priscilla was given the seat directly beside me and Claire was given the seat beside Landen.
"So glad you could join us." Mom smiled.
"Yeah, we're thrilled." I muttered under my breath.
"Thank you for having us." Mr. Cabot smiled.
I rolled my eyes.
"Lincoln, it's good to see you." Mrs. Cabot smiled at me.
"You as well Ma'am." I grinned.
They got in some small talk before the real reason they were there emerged.
"So Lincoln, you have any special lady in your life?" Mr. Cabot asked.
"I don't see how that is any of your business." I said, shoving a piece of steak in my mouth.
