CHAPTER 6 (LIZZY)

I open the basement door and Christian follows me down the steps. The basement smells as dirt and the light is dim. I open a little door under the steps where I find a bunch of blankets. They are plain colored blankets and I grab six.

“So, how has your family reunion gone?”

“Actually, we haven’t really got to talk.” I look up at his nice blue eyes. He is so nice and kind and the fact that if I would have never came to earth maybe we could be together.

“So… how’s it been down here on earth?”

“Okay… actually not that bad, as they make it sound,” I reply. His eyes turn red.

“Fine… right, well, I was worried sick and here you are saying this place is fine.”

“Well, what do you want me to say? This place isn’t as bad as they make it sound.” I’m not mad, I understand him but he doesn’t understand me.

“Well, I guess I should stop worrying about you shouldn’t I?” he turns away.

“Christian,” I grab his hand and turn him around,” you don’t understand. At first, it was hard to understand everything and keep control of my eyes and all… but now I have control and I now I am okay.”

“You have no idea how bad I missed you, how badly I wanted to take the sada to forget you, but I didn’t you were a great person that nobody had the right to forget you.” His voice is soothing and his eyes turn pink.

“Well, thank you for everything,” I say.

“Your eyes are pink,” he replies. I try my best to turn them to blue.

“No, they’re not,” I laugh.

“How do you do that?”

“Practice,” I say.

I close the door in which I found the blankets. When I turn again I find Christian close to me. Close, close to the point where we are sharing the same breath. He leans in and for some reason I turn and walk up the steps. I keep walking and don’t hear footsteps behind me I turn and see him standing there and finally he turns and starts up the steps. We get up the steps without a word and I don’t even look at him as I say a few words to Talia and hand her, two blankets. Talia turns and walks out the room and into the next room with Jeremy, and just the door behind them.

I lay the blanket on the floor and grab a pillow from the couch, and lay on the blanket then lay down, too.

“You don’t want to sleep on the couch?” his voice startles me and I look back to see his face. Our gaze meets for a second and he looks away.

“No, thank you,” I reply and look away.

He spreads a blanket on the couch and puts a pillow to where his head will be. He lies down and I feel his eyes boring into my back.

“I’m sorry,” he says startling me once again.

“It’s- I, it’s not your fault.”

“Right.”

“What is that supposed to mean?”

“Nothing,” he says and turns around.

“No, what does that mean?” I whisper looking at his back.

“You know I care about you, you know how I feel about you, you now I don’t think you are the same person you were when you were up there,” he is now turned around facing me looking me in the eyes. His eyes are red and they glow in the dark.

“How am I different?”

“I don’t know just, you just are,” he says in his regular voice.

“Why because don’t like you the way you do to me? Because I didn’t want to kiss you?” I whisper sharply. What I just said isn’t true, but it’s the only thing I could say. I turn around. My mind roaming, I love him, but I’m not ready for him to know that. I don’t want him hurt, I don’t want to start anything, and I don’t want him to make me weak, love is a weakness. I think till my head hurts and I finally feel the darkness come and I let it come.

******

Bang, bang, is the first sound I hear when I open my eyes. I look up and see men in black suits starring at us. I jump to my feet and find Christian next to me, wide eyed. Christian hits one in the face with his hand and brings his knee to the man’s face.  A man runs toward me and I grab his arm and twist it to his back and kick his knees bringing him to the floor and kicking his face. Then I see Jeremy starring wide eyed. Suddenly he changes into a-a lion. No! That can’t be, he can’t be! Jeremy, or the lion, jumps and bites into a man throwing him around like a rag doll, then he pounces on a couple door and all of them are down. Both I and Christian stare at Jeremy wide eyed.

“Take him to the kitchen get him some cloths and let’s get going,” I whisper. Nobody moves, I compose my voice and yell,”Now.”

They move to the next room and I stare at the men on the ground. I lift one of the guys face and lift his mask. The kings soldiers, they came here for Talia, we need to move fast.

“Christian,” I yell,” We need to move fast those were the kings soldiers.” As I walk into the kitchen I see Jeremy banging his fit against the wall like a mental man and see blood on the wall. Christian looks at me with wide eyes.

“What?” I ask but, I already know the answer.

“He’s half Decorus,” he says with a furious tone. If I weren’t in utter shock I would be to but, right know there is no time for any of us to be mad.

“Jeremy stop that, and grab Talia, we are leaving, Christian grab the keys to the car they are right behind you,” Jeremy stops off and Christian grabs the keys. I move the soldiers over to the living room and go out the door to Jeremy’s car. The air outside is cool and there is a slight breeze, the air smells as dried rain, I look at the side walk and sure enough it’s wet. Talia will open her eyes and be so confused, but, dang she is a deep sleeper, for real though.  A little laugh escapes my lips.

“What is so funny,” I hear Christians voice behind me and see him hold out the keys.

“Talia’s a deep sleeper,” I laugh once more and take the keys. I start the engine and look at him again,” do you remember when they taught us about human cars?” I say lifting and eye brow.

“Yes, I’ll drive.” He hops in and I get into the passenger’s seat next to him.  I see Jeremy come out with Talia thrown over his soldier like a rag doll. I laugh.

“What?”

“Talia looks like a rag doll,” I laugh.

“You always know how to make something bad good,” he laughs,” that’s one thing I like about you.”

I turn toward the window, not wanting to bring up what happened last night. I hear the door open and see Jeremy sit Talia down. He slams the door behind her and her head slumps against the window. He opens the other backseat door and climbs in. Finally, we are on our way.

I look over to the clock on the car radio and the time reads 5:42, I hear a sniffle and look back, there are tears running down Jeremy’s face, I’ve never seen a guy cry. I mean if I found out I was something that shouldn’t even exist I would be crying to but seeing a guy cry is different. I notice I’m starring a quickly turn away.
