THIRTY SEVEN - CHALLENGE

I made sure to put my Bluetooth headset while waiting for Jin to wake up. When he fell asleep, I decided to wait until he wakes up the next morning. It may be weird but I enjoyed it. It felt like I'm watching him sleep. I am smiling the whole night when he started snoring. I found it so adorable. I can even imagine him sleeping with his mouth open and drooling.

I heard him panicked when he finally realized that I'm still on the line. I think I even heard him curse. Good thing, I already finished taking a shower and I am already in my casual clothes on the way to the parking when Jin woke up. I asked Soobin to get inside the car before saying something pervert to Jin. I'm sure he will rant at me once he learned that Soobin heard something unnecessary. And that's the last thing I want to happen. Knowing Jin, he will not stop.

"There's Teacher Jinnie." Soobin almost screamed from the backseat when he gets a glimpse of his favorite person. He loves his Teacher Jinnie so much. He starts waving his hands while Jin approaches the car.

"Good morning, baby." Jin greeted Soobin as he entered the car. He smells different today. Perhaps, a new perfume scent. And I love it.

"Good morning Teacher. I woke up early when daddy said we will pick you up." He smiled so widely at Jin. He is always proud whenever he did something that I asked him to do. And I feel proud as well that he's starting to listen to me more.

Jin smiles widely too when he heard about what Soobin had done this morning. They started chatting as if I'm not with them. I just let them talk. What's important is what will happen tonight. Finally, I will have some private time with Jin.

"Have you taken your breakfast?" Jin finally asked me. I smiled and nodded. 

"I actually brought some for you. I know you rushed when I told you that we're on our way." I gave him the food container with a sandwich and a thermos filled with coffee.

"Thank you. I'm glad you realized that you rushed me." He stared at me as if he's asking for some explanation.

"What's with the look?" I asked, glancing at him.

"Did you say something earlier that he should not be hearing?" Jin asked in a very low voice.

I shake my head. "You ranting to me is the last thing that I want to happen. He doesn't know anything."

"Are you keeping a secret to me, daddy?" Soobin asked from the backseat. His face already frowning.

"No, Binnie. But you know why I will bring you to Uncle Taetae later, right?" I looked at him from the rearview mirror.

Soobin nods. "You and Teacher Jinnie will go on a date."

I looked at Jin. I know he thought that I'm lying again but now that Soobin had spoken, I am vindicated. "If he heard something, you will know. You know that he cannot keep a secret from you. Tried and tested."

"Can I come next time?" Soobin asked while swaying his foot.

Jin look behind and smiled at my boy. "Daddy will bring you to Everland next week. How about that?"

Soobin clapped his hands. "Really, daddy? Can Teacher Jinnie come? The last time, he wasn't able to make it."

I remember, the last time we were supposed to go there, I and Jin had some misunderstandings. I drove him back home and asked him to get out of my car. That was a very unfortunate event. We were both heated and we just love to argue about anything. And that time, I still cannot accept the fact that I have a lot of shortcomings to Soobin. Jin definitely stepped on my ego. I cannot imagine that someone I barely know back then can say something so brazen to me.

Jin, Kim Seokjin. I never thought that I will fall in love again. I thought Ken will be the last man for me. But it seems that Ken was right. What he said in the letter reminded me that there's still life after him. And Jin was right in saying that there's something more for me. Like what Ken said, somewhere, one day, I will meet someone who will accompany me in this journey. And I hope that it's Jin.

The whole day, I think I only slept for two hours. I kept on texting Jin. He's not replying. He only replied once telling me that he's still teaching. But I just keep on sending him messages. Until I went to school again to pick Soobin up to drop him to Taehyung and Jimin's house, Jin did not send any message. I'm getting worried that he will ditch our date. Or perhaps, he changed his mind or he realized he doesn't trust me yet.

I keep on chewing on my lower lip as I wait for him outside the school, sitting down on the hood of my car. I keep on looking at my watch. Every second seems like minutes and minutes seem like hours. I wonder why he's not even replying to any of my messages. I wish he could just say that he couldn't make it. At least I know.

When I finally see him coming out with a big smile on his face, all my worries fade. I want to grab and hug him but I don't want to appear as someone pathetic for worrying too much.

"You did not even text," I said. I'm kind of disappointed actually.

He gives me his cute smile. I wonder what it means. "I did that on purpose."

I creased my forehead.

"I want you to think that I cannot make it today." He giggled and turned away. I knew it. He's up to something.

I grab his wrist, pull him by the waist and kiss his lips. I know he's surprised by the way his body responds but eventually, he kisses me back.

"Don't you do that again," I whispered against his lips.

He smiles and stares into my eyes. "Is that my punishment for being naughty?"

I smile by his question. I can confirm that I already met my nemesis. "Maybe?"

"Then I guess I need to do that again." He said so sultrily before winking at me.

I can only watch him as he walks and goes inside the car. He stares at me from the inside, smiling as if mocking at me.

Jin is really something else. Too far from shy and reserved Ken that I once loved. But I realized that that's what I love about Jin. He's some sort of a challenge to me. And now, I guess he's challenging the man in me.
