Chapter 3: Bakery

(Evangeline's POV)
    After a couple of months have past having my soldiers trained and prepared at all times, me and Alexa got to hang out more! I don't have anyone to look after me currently, so I get to rule over myself too! The guards are all like family to me, they care about me lots and know what I've been through and who I really am. I sneak out mid-day and tell them I'm meeting with a friend but in the middle of a hallway they just look at each other in confusion. Gee, thanks guards no offense taken. I head out and put on a subtle disguise so people don't crowd me as soon as they see me in public. (which is very rare) We both go to some local shops and get two charms in a wood carving shop. She puts hers on the chain going across her shoulders and I put mine attached to my earring. Best Friend charms! This is so much fun! We go to a bakery and see Mr. Brown! I haven't seen him since I was a child when he offered us his bread and he brought in some sweets for me too! As we walked in, I explain to Alexa about how I know him.
"Oh wow, that's so cool!" she says.
"Right? I'm going to take off some of my disguise so he can recognize me." As I start taking it off Alexa stops me.
"Ehh, I have a bad feeling about this Eva." says Alexa.
"I think it's fine, nobody's here anyways." I respond as I take it off. Alexa looks away downwards.
Mr. Brown is putting some baked goods in the glass container on top of the counter and looks up in shock. He gasps!
"Evangeline? Is that you? And what are you doing here? You know you aren't supposed to be out in town like this." he said in a whisper while giving me a concerned look.
"Yes it's me! I know, I know, but I'm taking a walk around with my friend Alexa!" I point to her and she says hi and introduces herself and how we met.
"Well nice to meet you, Alexa." he said, "And look how much you've grown Evangeline!". He releases the bread in his hands on the counter and puts his hand down to his knees to show how small I used to be. "You were only about this tall when I last saw you!"
"Aw how cute!" says Alexa.
We all laugh and talk for a bit until I slyly ask "You don't happen to still make that good marble bread do you?"
"Of course! Here you go, you can have it for free!" he exclaimed.
    I say my thanks and goodbyes with Alexa as I grab a slice and hand another for Alexa to try. She takes a bite of it hesitantly as I just take a big chomp.
"Mmm! It's really good! I've never-" Alexa's cut off by another citizen. We both look back in a second.
"Look! It's Empress Evangeline!" Shoot. I forgot to put on my hood to hide myself.
