With Friday came weekend and this was the first time Aziel felt down as weekend came. With his parents out and brother still attending college, he was left alone, sinking in his thoughts.
His eyes roamed aimlessly across the room. When boredom almost sunk its claws in his being, his eyes stopped on photograph on his table. Quickly averting his eyes, he bit his lips with sudden sadness washing over him. Tears stung his eyes but kept them at bay.
Once again his thoughts wandered but this time they were more focused on the mystery. Mystery of his secret Santa. He felt down that he couldn't receive any gifts as it wasn't a school day. He was finally enjoying the small one-sided interaction between them.
Huffing he pulled his phone up, typing a quick text to Jason. He might have been popular but in reality, he only had one friend. With a 'busy with guests' text from Jason, he was once again alone.
As his eyes once again rested on the photo frame as he thought of the ill-fated day. If he could he would have changed the fate that day. Getting up from his bed he moved forward.
He noticed the beautiful smile of the person next to him and heaved a heavy sigh. Returning it to its original position he turned its front away from him.
Chiming bell was a welcomed distraction from his mellow mood. With socks clad feet he rushed down the carpeted stairs.
Not bothering with peephole, he pulled the door open. Cold air was what that greeted him first hand. A frown marred his face as his eyebrows scrunched together.
Just as he was about to close the door his gaze went to the box placed on the welcome mat. His eyes went wide as he picked it up and rushed out in hopes of catching at least a fleeting glance of his secret Santa.
Once again with a failed attempt, he moved inside. As the front door blocked the icy breeze he analyzed his gift.
Wrapped in a kraft paper the box was delicately decorated with twine and cinnamon sticks, giving a warm fragrance. A gift tag hung from the end of a twin, proudly adorning his name.
Sitting cross-legged on his bed pulled the fairly lightbox in his lap. Slowly with the patient moved he unraveled the gift inside.
A plastic box scribbled 'When You Stressed' intrigued his interest. Pulling the blue lid open gazed at the contents. Picking up the letter he read the words written for him.
'Snicker-Laughter is the best medicine
Kisses-Because someone always loves you
Marbles-WHen someone says you have lost yours
Paper ball-When you feel like throwing something
Bubble wrap-When you feel like punching someone
Pennies-So that you never go broke
Use it when you need to. :)'
By the end of the note melodious laughter filled the room. Aziel felt more relieved with the gesture than he could ever with these things.
With warmth cocooning his mind and heart he stared at the ceiling, trying to imagine his secret Santa.
With house around a block far she hummed and danced to a Christmas beat as her pale skin glowed golden under the light of hearth celebrating another day of December.
