Aziel was shivering as he made his way inside the school. He hated how cold he felt during this season. With his nose red and cheeks pink, he quickly made it past the buzzing crowd.
Passing casual greetings to the people he barely knew, Aziel reached his destination. With his child-like giddiness still intact, he opened his locker. He rummaged through the pages and all the crap that described his locker but he couldn't find anything. Just to make sure he didn't miss anything, he rechecked.
The note was missing, meaning it was delivered but there wasn't any reply or any gift there. Struck with sudden disappointment, he let out a huff.
"Seems like the little boy didn't get his gift today." Jason snickered.
"Get lost," Aziel grumbled in response.
Classes passed without a hitch and soon it was lunch break. There was still a sinking feeling inside his heart but he tried to shake it off.
The canteen was alive with words and occasionally food floating around. Aziel was settled on a table with Jason and a few other mutual friends with conversations were flowing.
A tap on his shoulder gained his attention. There was a girl with the tip of her hair painted pink and eyes cast downwards. Shifting from one foot to another, she shoved a gift-wrapped packet ahead.
"Uh-h someone said this was for you." she let out in a soft voice.
With realization dawning, he was quick to grab the packet. Like a savage beast, he tore through the blue polka dot packing. Inside there were gloves. Blue knitted gloves, just his size with his initials A.M. knitted with red.
The girl was still standing there but her eyes were glued on the gift in his hands with interest.
"Can you please describe the person who gave you this?" Aziel said gaining her attention.
At the query, her cheeks grew pink and her head tilted downwards. "Yeah! It was a girl. She was about this tall and had long brown hair. I couldn't see much of her face as she was wearing a huge hoodie."
He ignored the fact that now he knew at least something about his secret Santa but concentrated on the admiration he heard in the girl's voice. He didn't like that.
Narrowing his eyes he dismissed her with a nod. All the people on his table were staring at him but he ignored them.
Inside the wrapping was a note. When he opened it, he realized it was the one he wrote. The set of questions he asked were answered in the same beautiful scrawl.
'What is your name? Santa's Elf
Do I know you? More than you think
Why me? Patience is the key.
Seems like you wanted to get to know me. Don't worry, just wait till Christmas. All your questions will be answered.
Meanwhile, why don't you wear those gloves I knit for you? Blue is your favorite color, right?
Your hands are always cold and you always forget about buying gloves, so I made you a pair.
They will keep you warm till we meet. :)′
Jason gave him a small smirk after he read the last part after he read the note over his shoulder.
"Well, it looks like you are getting some this Christmas," he said, giving Aziel a congratulatory pat on his back. The gesture was returned with a 'light' punch on his shoulder.
Some distance apart, she laughed at Jason's antics as Aziel did too. Slowly but finally their laughs came in sync.
