Aziel closed the car door as he followed his mom after one of her long shopping spree. His mom wasn't a shopaholic in any way, but when Christmas came around, it seemed like she adored being one.
He heard a familiar groan of his brother behind him as he carried the shopping bags.
Elijah, his elder brother was a genius. With his top grades and his academic skills, he was able to grab a spot in the ivy leagues. They shared the same mob of brown hair but with Aziel's eyes brown, almost hazel and Elijah's pale honey, their similarities stopped there.
Dumping the bags on the couches in the living area, Aziel was quick to make himself scarce. He didn't want to be tangled in one of his mom's Christmas ventures.
Just as he entered the room, his gaze went to the golden gift sitting next to his bed.
The three-wick candle rested proudly decorated in rugged golden container. The concoction inside the candle was a pale glittering white, just like fresh snow under the morning sun.
By now he hadn't had a chance to experience what smell it brought along but he was really curious. Especially after reading the words he had read in the note attached.
'You know Christmas has its own scent? :)'
His fingers mindlessly traced the words along the curve of calligraphy. Shaking himself out of his thoughts, he rummaged through his drawers looking for a lighter he had buried deep.
When he finally found it, his thoughts went to the reason why he had this lighter here in the first place. When he had lost her, he fell into a recession of bad habits. Trying to find means to forget her and erase the impact she had on his life. But as quick as these habits came they left as quick too. Jason was the reason and he was forever thankful to him for that.
He heaved a heavy sigh and lit the small white hard edge lighter. As the wicks burned, slowly the scents floated around his room. They smelled something like pine, warm chestnuts, cinnamon, and snow?
All in all the scent was totally alluring and wrapped around him in a gorgeous embrace.
From the small space below his door, the smell wafted around his house. Everyone paused for a second and breathed in the magic of Christmas.
Without knowing his mother had already made her way towards his room. The door was open. Peeking in, she saw her son smiling at a candle in a daze.
Her heart went erratic but not at the sight of him smiling at a candle but after seeing him smile like that after years. Somehow his smile felt complete and she felt her eyes swell up with tears of happiness.
Finally, the magic of Christmas and someone's presence was occurring on him.
