I tumble out of the portal behind a row of book shelves, on a heavy dose of adrenaline and confusion. While my eyes catch up with my movements I stumble around like a drunk, knocking over books about whatever gibberish was written as the title.

As I emerge from the scattered shelves like dominos, I'm greeted by the curious and enraged eyes of uncaring humans.

"Yeah, I'm ok, not like you should help or anything." I yell out, but it looks like they aren't hearing me, or have I accidentally turned invisible again. I stare at my hand then adjust my gaze to the statutes staring at me from their computers. Which confirms that they can in fact see me.

With my eyes finally steady, I dust off the glitter from my jet black cloak and shake my hair. I think I might have gotten some in my mouth. Killing a fairy is not at all like swatting a fly. In search of the exit, I make my way out of this hostile room and to the corridor. Between the lift and the stairs, I'd say the choice is obvious.

Joined by a young man with glasses, smart clothes and gelled brown hair, I enter the lift in a flood of awkward silence. His horrendous smell hits me seconds after the doors closes.

"Have you been to the doctor's recently?" I ask him out of concern after pressing ground floor. "It's just, your blood smells a bit...toxic, you should get it checked out."

"I don't think that's any of your business." He remains facing the door.

The awkwardness thickens as I remain quiet. I've lived centuries stained by the death and blood of humans, why am I caring for one now?

The doors finally release me, I arrive at the ground floor, and open the doors leading outside when I see the little shiny flies sparkling under the sun, coming this way. All I did was steal the blood of their goddess, I don't understand why they're taking it so personally. Immediately I close the door, however a small pair of hands pulls it open again, in response I hold it closed.

"Hey kid."

The child stares up at me with huge brown eyes.

"My mum's out there, move it!" She fights against my seal on the exit, when her strength fails she starts hanging off the door handle.

Aww what a cute child, on my best days she'd have made a wonderful meal. Unfortunately, the incoming fairies leave no time for lunch.

"Kid, do you know if there's another exit".
