Chapter 6: The One Direction

"I'd be rather be a kid and play with paper planes than be a man and play with a woman's heart." – Niall Horan

Fans. Everywhere around me, fans. Hundreds of them, every shape and size, all colours, with one thing in common: an OCD involving One Direction. Every freaking one was screaming and shouting, and the concert hadn't even started yet. Heck, we weren't even past the ticket collectors.

"This is so exciting!" Panda screamed shrilly.

Some how, she looked worse than earlier. Panda eyes to the max, lips looking twice their size from the amount of lippy, and hair completely messed up. She had been trying to decide which was better; cute high ponytail, or attractive yet simple side plait. The result of trying to combine both of them had only resulted in disaster. She was anxious to go through to the main concert area, but there was still a long queue in from of us.

"How long till the concert?" She sounded stressed.

Actually that was an understatement.

She was practically trembling with anxiety and worry, and all of this combined with euphoria about seeing the band that she worshipped was making her tearful.

"How long?!"

"Half an hour. Don't stress, they always start late."

"But look at the queue in front of us!"

"Don't worry we're moving quickly."

She still looked like she about to cry.

I sighed.

This was the worse possible day for a concert. The field we would be standing in (and assumably dancing and jumping in) was by now a muddly sludge and the heavens had opened once more to let rain pour down on us. My cheap (and cheerful) red charity shop jacket I soon discovered was not waterproof, and despite the weird looks some directioners (yeah this breed has their own name!) were giving me, I kept on my aviators.

Yeah, that's me, too cool for school.

.

Ok maybe slightly lame, but who else is wearing sunglasses in the rain? I'm a trend setter!

Two girls beside us who had gone all out with One Direction merchandise (even hats) began talking about who was their favourite.

"Oh I love Zayn, he like has a tattoo on his chest in Arabic of his grandfather's name? Isn't that sweet? And he's hot, too! I'm like so in love!" The blonde said to the brunette.

"I can't choose! They're all so hot, but oh my gosh, Niall, he's so sweet and kind, and nice, and cute, and drop dead gorgous!"

"I can't believe we got tickets! This is going to be the best! I can't wait till they sing What Makes You Beautiful. It feels like they're singing it just to me!"

"Yeah and Harry sounds so sexy when he sings it!"

"Oh I know! I feel like I'm just gonna have an or-"

Ok, I had enough of that conversation. Everyone seemed just so obsessed. Was the band really that good? Well they better be - after all, I had to go through hell to get to this damn field in the middle of freaking nowhere.

Suddenly, Panda was searching for the tickets frantically.

"Where are they?"

Now she was crying.

"You gave them to me, remember?"

A sob got stuck in her throat and she choked before grinning in relief. She grabbed them from me and rushed forwards, me in tow, to the guy who checked our tickets wearily, staring at Lily's panda eyes. I was glad for the sunglasses which partially hid my face.

"Head on in," he grumbled, handing us two wrist bands.

I helped Lily put on her own, and keeping an eye fixed on her, I looked up to the stage where the famous One Direction would sing astonish the crowd waiting to see them. And randomly and without any warning, there were screams of excitement and almost total chaos. Lily, screaming in her own excitement, dragged me forward, pushing against the throngs of people.

A chant started to ripple through the crowd.

"We love One Direction! We love One Direction! We love One Direction!"

Then there was a strum of a guitar somewhere on the stage and music began to get louder and louder. The screams got louder too and with another 'We Love One Direction!', five boys ran on stage.
