"The Nomu we captured are just as unresponsive as the last ones," a police officer sighed, standing before a group of superiors with his back to a presentation he had set up. "They're basically mindless animals. We haven't gotten any new info from them. The warehouse they were kept in was completely destroyed during the battle between All Might and the villain. We'll continue our investigation, of course, but we do not know how much data we can collect."
"And we haven't gotten any worthwhile information from the bar location?" a superior inquired.
"We're still looking into that, sir," the officer replied, looking down at some notes he had prepared.
"We apprehended all the Nomu, sure," a superior at the head of the conference room shrugged, "but we let most of the perpetrators including Shigaraki slip away. Honestly, even though we captured their boss, I'd have to say that this whole thing was a draw."
"Don't be stupid," the first man said. "Our country just lost the Symbol of Peace. We're the ones who lost here. Everyone knows that the indestructible hero can be defeated now, the citizens and the villains."
"It's what we get for relying too much on one pro hero," a third man grunted.
"People now know that they can raise hell with just a handful of thugs," the first men went on. "I'd hate to think of what that might have inspired. Our initial profile of Tomura Shigaraki described him as childish and prone to tantrums, but that's obviously changed. His plans are growing more strategic; he now appears to be focused on how he can mold our society. His thought process has evolved, matured, and since All Might's out of the picture, we've lost our biggest deterrent to criminal activity. Each time the League fails, they come back stronger. And now, Shigaraki can greatly expand his sphere of influence."
"Are you suggesting that their loss was calculated? A part of their plan?" a fourth director inquired.
"That does sound like quite a leap," the second man pointed out.
"We don't know," the first director grunted. "There's only one thing I can say for certain: We must capture League of Villains, no matter what. As the police, we have to be more proactive to apprehend villains; we are not just back-up. It's about time we implement some changes........"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
"The embers inside of me have been snuffed out," All Might said roughly. "The mighty Symbol of Peace is no more."
The skeletal hero sat upright in a hospital bed, in his own hospital room. Hi body was almost completely bandaged, his right arm in a sling. The hero looked at his wrapped left hand. His expression seemed broken, conflicted. Tsukauchi sat in a stool while a bandaged Gran Torino stood beside him at All Might's bedside, looking at their friend.
"However," All Might looked up at them, " I won't just sit here. There's still something I must do."
"Tomura Shigaraki," Gran Torino guessed, leaning on his cane. "Shimura's grandson, eh?"
"The only proof we have of that is what All For One said," Tsukauchi pointed out. "It's not much to go on. The two of you didn't have any interaction with Shimura's family? Even though you were so close to her?"
"No," Gran Torino replied, looking lazily up at the officer.
"Why not?" Tsukauchi asked.
"It happened soon after Shimura's husband was killed," Gran Torino sighed, getting a distant look in his eyes. "Concerned, she put her child in foster care to shield the youngster from the hero world. She told Toshinori and me that she didn't want us to have any contact with the kid, even if something terrible happened to her."
