Chapter 8: The Wrong Step

Your POV

"All Might- long time no see." Sirena chuckles as she had you in tow up to U.A. "Things going well in U.A., I assume? You being around the new line of heroes must be tiring."

All Might seems to cough a bit and nodded his head. "Yes. It's a bit exhausting." His dull eyes quickly went to you, and he smiled softly. "Oh? Who's this? Your student?"

Sirena beckons you to come to her side, which you do. Her hand rested on your shoulder as she began to talk about you and your training. "Yep, this is my student. I wanted to bring her along while we talk about her options. Oh, but first," she turns to you with that smile, "want to introduce yourself to All Might?"

You nodded, stepping forward and smiling softly. "I'm (l/n) (y/n), but you can call my (y/n). No need for formalities."

All Might seemed to step back, chuckling at you. "So polite. You want to be a hero, (y/n)?"

"More than anything."

Sirena chuckles softly, looking down at you with her eyes sparkling with approval. "And I'm glad to have aided (y/n) in her goals as a hero. At least I get to focus one of my student instead of a whole class, All Might. Mind if (y/n) takes a look around the school grounds for awhile as we talk?"

"That's alright- let's get you inside U.A. first. Class is currently in session- so all I just ask is that (y/n) doesn't try to interfere with the classes. Seeing how proper she is, I have no worries for her. Oh, and (y/n)?" All Might gives you the thumbs up and chuckles a bit. "Lunch is gonna be in 20 minutes. So if you want to kill some time exploring before lunch, I definitely won't mind."

You gave a gentle nod, walking after All Might onto U.A. grounds. The first thought that popped into your head was finding Todoroki- but remembering All Might's request, you didn't go inside of the U.A. building and disturbed any of the classes. You just walked around the school grounds, gasping in awe with everything there. 

When the clock ticks to 12:30 pm, the bell rang for lunch. Your heart nearly skipped a beat when that lunch bell rang, echoing throughout the empty halls. It was so close to meeting Todoroki once more.

Todoroki's POV

The lunch crowd was overwhelmingly busy- as per usual. I struggled to even walk down into the cafeteria. One walk inside the cafeteria, and the lines were long. Just as I was gonna stand in the line for some soba noodles- I saw her. Just sitting down alone in a small booth area, eating her lunch. My eyes couldn't stop widening as I saw her. Now... I couldn't stop mentally urging the line to go faster.

"May I sit here?" I gave off a small chuckle to (y/n) as I walked over to her.

The surprised face of hers made my heart leap. I could see that she struggled to keep her excitement close to herself, as she squealed a bit. "S-Shoto! Surprised?"

I nodded my head, sitting next to her. "Yeah, completely. Not trying to be rude... but... why are you here? Don't tell me you're gonna be a student at U.A."

She waved her hand, denying it. "My teacher wanted to talk to All Might. I wasn't exactly informed of what they were talking about, but I'm sure it's something to deal with me and All Might. That part... I have no idea what they could be talking about."

Once more, I chuckled, smiling softly only to (y/n). My eyes took a quick glance around the cafeteria, and I caught where my classmates were. Thankfully they were still in lines to get their lunches and not paying any attention.

"Something wrong, Shoto?" She asks, catching on my estranged behavior.

I waved my hand at her, shaking my head. But her eyes continued to stay on me, practically begging me to tell her. Of course, I surrender to her and confessed about Class 1-A. "They've been asking me non-stop questions about you... and I feel uncomfortable with them asking me them."

A mixed reaction between worry and disappointment, (y/n) puts her hand on my shoulder as she began to speak to me. "Oh... well... it's okay to tell them about me. It's not like I'm your biological sister that your family hid from you." She says in such an optimistic way... I couldn't help but chuckle at her humor to make me smile.

"You're right, you're right."

A few minutes into our conversation, 3 guys from my class walked over to me. Of course, I was growing a bit angry because I knew what they were gonna ask me. I looked up, and I saw Kirishima, Kaminari, and Midoriya.

"Ah, Todoroki- oh? Who's that?" Midoriya asks as I saw his eyes looking directly at (y/n). My eyebrows began to knit together as my eyes narrowed down at the trio. "I haven't seen you around here... are you new?"

(y/n) tilted her head a bit a bit, chuckling a bit. "I'm not attending at U.A., just here because my teacher wanted to have a talk with All Might. And I'm (y/n). Who are you?"

I couldn't be angry at her... her heart was just... pure...

Midoriya chuckled, bowing his head. "I'm Izuku Midoriya. It's nice to meet you, (y/n). Sorry for bothering you two- Kirishima, Kaminari, let's go sit down somewhere else." Unfortunately, Kaminari didn't leave at all. He just stared at (y/n) and me for awhile before asking such an idiotic question.

"Aren't you two dating?"

I could feel my blood boiling... and I felt (y/n)'s hand on my right arm. Turning to her, I only saw a small glimpse of fire. Was I accidentally activating my Quirk because of Kaminari's question? I suddenly calmed down, taking a deep breath and shooing Kaminari away.

"H-Hey, T-Todoroki- i-it was a simple question, man."

"It's not simple if you keep asking me the same questions as before. Don't you ever learn from your fried brain or something?" My blood seemed to boil once more with just this exchange with him. "Go back to Midoriya and leave me alone."

"But-"

I stood up to my feet and got straight up in his face with a few flames sparking in his face. "You go and leave (y/n) and I alone. Talk to me again with your questions like that- I won't be afraid to burn your dorm room in your sleep. Is that clear, Kaminari?"

Kaminari nodded his heads and quickly darted off to the seat to where Midoriya was. I sat down, sighing heavily and trying to cool myself down. 

"Sorry about that, (y/n). That's one of the aggressors."

(y/n) nodded her head, laying her head on my right shoulder, chuckling a bit. "It's alright. It's pretty cool to see you that protective over me. That's really... really beautiful."

Instead of my blood boiling, (y/n) made my cheeks warm. I smiled softly, holding her close to me. If it wasn't official before, it's already official now. I will become her protector in every way. If she is going down the path as a hero... I will make sure that I would be the one to protect her from every blow. I would sacrifice myself for her. She is the pure-hearted one in my life...
