meet the author ~ facts about me & how RiC came about !

ok! so yo and hello to my fellow Tears For Fears stans and readers of RoLaNd iN ChAiNs !

my name is Merlyn (but you'll mostly know me as thatsgreatcontent), i've just turned 13 years old, i'm from the UK and i'm (unfortunately lol) the author of RoLaNd iN ChAiNs.

it's the story everyone loves to hate!

i thought i would give myself a little introduction for any new followers or readers of my stories (although i really don't know why you would put yourself through reading them lolol).

so what i'll be doing in this lil "oneshot" i guess you could say? is just giving a few facts about me and talking about how the iCoNic fic came to be! i hope you enjoy reading 😇

fact 1: i'm the baby of my family with 3 elder brothers.
fact 2: i'm vegetarian/vegan.
fact 3: my zodiac sign is aries.
fact 4: i'm currently homeschooled due to the COVID-19 crisis.
fact 5: i have 3 cats, they're all boys and their names are Softy, Oliver and Silhouette (Silhouette joining our family in November last year)
fact 6: i'm in a very loving relationship which is approaching its 9 month anniversary!!
fact 7: i've had Wattpad since late 2018.
fact 8: i have anxiety and partial ocd.
fact 9: i LOVE to sing.
fact 10: i adore Tears For Fears (if that's not already obvious)!

so, this is the story of how RoLaNd iN ChAiNs was born! are you sitting comfortably?
ok i'll stop let's just get on with this:

in very early 2019, my friends and i went out to see the film Bohemian Rhapsody. this was my 3rd time seeing it in cinemas lol but it was their 1st time so it was so special and we LOVED it!

not long after this, my obsession with Queen began. at school specifically one friend and i would stand in the playground reading maylor and deacury fanfiction and just lose it hahaha. then she decided to write her own Queen fic. i helped her write the first few chapters; it wasn't in any way serious but it was such a laugh. this would then lead to me writing my other two stories on my page which are both Queen related.

slowly over the next few months my Queen and Bohemian Rhapsody obsession died down as i began to fall in love with a band i'd actually known about my entire life: Tears For Fears! it started out with my family and i just sitting in the living room watching their music videos and joking that Curt looked like a family friend (which he really does by the way it's actually scary). i don't know what it was, but there was just something i loved about them and soon my obsession was in full force!
side note: it's crazy how i only learnt their names last year when i can still remember being 2 years old and singing Everybody Wants To Rule The World on karaoke hahaha.

just like my friend did with Queen, i decided i wanted to write a shitpost fanfic on TFF. i was talking with my brother about what i should call it and he laughed saying "call it Roland In Chains after Woman In Chains." what he didn't know was that i would actually use that idea!

honestly RoLaNd iN ChAiNs started as something for my friends and family to laugh at, but suddenly it BLEW UP big time. it currently sits at 700+ reads and #1 in the Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith hashtags, which i genuinely can't believe. i can't help but mildly hate myself for writing it and what came over me to want to do so, but here we are now. welcome to my life, there's no turning back! (ok now i really hate myself)

so that's the story of how RoLaNd iN ChAiNs came to be. oh, and i'm not stopping at pArT TeN by the way. pArT ElEvEn will be coming your way at some point in the future, so brace for impact!!
