Gosen's vision was immediately replaced by a room that felt somewhat empty; although there was an illuminating light where he was standing. A menu appeared in front of him reading, 'Please Enter Your Name'.
The boy hesitantly placed his finger over it, opening a keyboard in front of him. He thought about making an online name, but ultimately decided against it, entering his own name and then pressing the next button. Half expecting it to say something like 'That name has already been chosen, please try again,' Gosen was surprised when the menu changed to show a bunch of different figures, seemingly avatars, fill the menu.
The next one read, 'Please pick a race.' There was a brief description under each of them labeling what their strengths and weaknesses were, but he paid almost no mind to it, having his eyes set on a specific race as soon as he saw it.
Giving a hand motion to make the auto scroll go faster, he stopped it on an avatar with light blue hair and selected it. A confirmation menu appeared, 'You are about to select the Undine race. Are you sure you wish to proceed?'
Selecting the blue circle, the system spoke, "You will be teleported directly to Undine territory."
A familiar blue light enveloped him and he was teleported to a city-like area filled with other people who Gosen could only assume were other Undines. Great, character successfully created... now to find Silica and the others...
"Wait... did she mention where they'd be?" Gosen mumbled to himself before the realization dawned on him. Crap... I was so anxious to start the game I forgot to wait for her response... I should log out and check my phone again.
Gosen did the normal hand movement to open the SAO menu, but nothing showed up. Huh? He tried again. "Oh no... no, no, no... why isn't it working?"
"Other hand," a female voice said from behind him.
"Oh..." Gosen trys his other hand, successfully pulling the menu out. Immediately the boy checks for the logout button. When he found it, a confirmation menu appeared. "Thank you," he says, turning to face the girl who had helped him. She was a familiar girl in a white uniform with blue borders and stripes. "Miss second-in--er, Asuna?"
"Yep, you're Gosen, I presume?" The girl smiled. Gosen had to stop himself from giving a disappointed sigh. Dang... I thought I'd be the only one. Oh well...
"Yeah, that's me. How... how did you know I'd be here?" Gosen asked, rubbing the back of his head.
"Well, we had someone waiting at the territory of three races we thought were most likely for you to pick, and what do ya know, it worked," Asuna replies, "speaking of which, I need to send a message to them now that I've found you." She opened her menu and typed something into a chat menu, then looked back to him. "Come on, I'll take you to everyone."
Asuna popped out light blue wings out of her back and almost started flying, "Oh right, you don't know how to fly yet."
The blue-haired girl walked behind Gosen and told him to pop his wings out. "Right..." he said, focusing for a second and then opened his eyes giving an awkward smile, "Uh, how do I do that?"
Asuna gave a sigh and shook her head, "You really just dove right in, huh? That's the simple part," she said, "just focus on your back and imagine the wings."
"Got it..." The boy closed his eyes again, this time the same blue wings that Asuna had sprouted out of her back appeared behind Gosen.
"Now here's the tough part," Asuna says, "you'll have to imagine virtual bones in your back that will allow you to use your wings."
