It was one of those scary nights before Halloween when it happened. Almost all the TV shows featured horror stories that can really raise even the finest hairs in your spine and give you terrible chills for the rest of the night. I, together with my friends in the dormitory, watched one particular program which probably was the strangest and creepiest of all.
As I could recall, it was all about a high school graduation footage. It was supposed to be a simple graduation rites ceremony at first glance, except that it was already evening. What's even uncanny was that the video showed an unwanted apparition, scaring every single one of us out of our wits. We were so into the story that the only thing I could hear was our soft gasps of terror. All of us were entangled in each other's arms while our lower extremities share the same malong.
The tips of our fingers were wet with cold sweat as we tried to process everything. After the said show ended, string of nervous laughs notably filled the air, possibly to ease the unnerving feeling. Then some of our dorm mates started to retire to their rooms, ready to sleep away the memory. But some stayed in the sala, including me, as the lady guard of our dormitory started to spout petrifying tales of her own experience in the dormitory.
I can't deny that I wasn't afraid at the time. Listening to the guard's stories made my stomach drop at some point but it also gave birth to a mischievous idea. In the middle of our serious discussions, one of my friends excused herself to go to the comfort room. It was a bit distant and would probably take five minutes to walk since it's located in a separate building, east side of the dormitory. I can tell that she was afraid to go on her own but no one's willing to accompany her.
Before she left, she gave some serious threats against pranks. But that even sparked the devil in me. I quietly tiptoed my way at the CR's door, leaning onto a wall. I was giddy with anticipation, my lungs ready to expel the loudest 'boo' that I can. And when the door opened, I shouted to the best of my abilities which she also reciprocated with a yell of curses. I laughed so hard that tears pooled at edge of my eyes.
It was so hilarious; her face seconds ago almost look like she's going to kill me. But when I looked again to check her face, I immediately regretted it. She was crying; the wetness made her eyes shiny and scared. I hugged her, muttering hundreds of 'sorry'. She continued to cry until we made it back, while I receive glares from my other friends. She ignored me for a while but forgave me in the end. It was then that I swore on my grave that I will never play pranks again.
